I was an absolute case of Mr. Nice Guy and I got to realise it after being on this sub for a while. I read posts and field reports even posted some foolish questions on AskTRP as well, even got banned once; but I want to make this journey till the end and improve myself everyday for the rest of my life.

I have started working out but am still skinny fat. I never used to stand up for myself ever in the past, but after learning my lessons, while trying TRP principles I started trying to stand up for myself and be assertive in my daily interactions with people.

Since past couple of months, I am facing a problem with this practice of mine, though. Men, whose opinion I care about have told me that I act rude and hostile over trivial things in the name of standing up for myself and that is no way of being assertive. But, when I asked them about what I should do; they didn’t have any relevant answer for that.

The incident that made me reflect on my actions was:

A few days back I was out with a group of my friends and I was driving my car with everyone else in it. On our way a friend of mine asked me to pull over the car as he wanted to buy some things from the store. As I pulled over the car in the parking lot, all of us began doing our things while waiting for the said friend to return. Then, came a couple of guys and asked me to move the car so they can drive out their car. I refused to move my car because my car was not parked wrong and they only wanted me to move my car so they could drive out comfortably without having to move their car front and back a couple of times to get it out of the Parking lane.

The guys who came to ask me to move my car didn’t like my “No” in response and turned aggressive, but when I didn’t move it they walked away cursing us. Till now all my friends had made up their mind that I was the asshole in this situation and that I should have moved my car despite of knowing that my car wasn’t parked improperly.

Am I taking TRP too far? I want to find out about how to be a functioning member of the society without being taken advantage of and not become a bullying asshole in the process.
