A few things are happening professionally and I figured this is the best place to ask. I have learned many things from this sub in the last two years I have visited and I look forward to the advice you give me. Thank you in advance.
So I joined a dealership as a BDC manager in June. The job was paying me 30 percent more compared to my previous job. I did take a pay cut due to my passion for being a BDC manager and it was close to my house.
Fast forward to now. In the six months since, I have been able to boost up our dealerships sales by 40 percent. My staff under me is focused and of course there is always room for improvement.
I have a second child coming on the way and my wife won’t be working in eight months anymore. So I need to make my income go up as soon as possible.
Now, this is where things get iffy in my opinion. The previous manager before me in my position has been working with our general managers for years at different dealerships. Tr general manager has kept him in the system since June and it is has been challenging to deal with this situation. I have four representatives under me and one of them dates the old manager.
The general manager keeps on going to this old manager for small things all the time. I stay strong and keep on doing what I need to do but it does affect me sometimes because I feel that it is disrespectful.
So now fast forward to the last month. I have been going on interviews because I need more money as I am vastly underpaid and this ex managers involvement within the office is uncalled for at this point of my career. I don’t need drama that is high school like at a juncture where I am very motivated and hungry. I got four offers where the pay had higher potential than the place where I am.
Two weeks ago, I spoke to the general manager about my situation telling him I need more money and I have offers elsewhere and he said I can’t go anywhere and said he will give me a raise and we will have a conversation on January 2nd.
So then we have a record breaking day the day after and he gives me a raise three days later and says he did my raise already and it will effective New Years. So now I am wondering if we will have a conversation January 2nd.
This week, he went to the old manager on Christmas Eve and told him to check payroll because he felt I paid my reps too much which I check thoroughly every week.
By the time Wednesday came around, everyone in my department had already found out about this situation and he came to me briefly and said he won’t overpay anyone and asked about two things and I showed him why they got paid on that and then he didn’t bring it up again and they got paid on it.
So now my questions are these. I am having a second child soon and my wife won’t work in a few months. I feel like this environment at work won’t make me succeed because of the relationship my general manager keeps with the ex manager.
Should I look for something else ASAP? I have brought up the discomfort I feel to the general manager before and he said he would take care of it but still keeps going to him.
This recent payroll situation seems like the last straw for me.
I have other opportunities on the table where I feel I can succeed and where I would be fully accountable for the good and bad things that happen where no previous manager would have any involvement.
I am looking for an opportunity where I can make enough money without the distractions and can fully provide for myself, my wife and my two kids.
I know the writing is long and at some junctures it lacks direction but this is why I am here. To get sound advice on this situation. Thank you.
