So this weekend my somewhat attractive neighbor invited me to a ‘holiday shindig’ at her place. Ignoring the fact that even though I would bang her, hooking up with neighbors is a no-no similar to banging co-workers, I have a question about showing my worth to any attractive single friends she might have.

Party etiquette says that you should always bring a gift for the host/hostess. So I was thinking Cards Against Humanity (it’s unique, filthy, and can really get the party moving in the right direction). I was also thinking of whipping up a quick batch of roasted chestnuts to bring over (food for the guests – show I can cook). I after the invite I asked if she wanted me to bring anything and she said no. Would that be a) trying too hard and b) too blue-pilley? Should I even bother with the hostess gift?

Advice please on next steps?

EDIT:

More details: 30-something party, so I'll be bringing booze anyhow.

I should really know better by now, but I'm just getting my legs back after a long time off the market. Still re-learning how to do it.

Fuck cash. It's a holiday party. The rules are you NEVER show up empty-handed, and cash is a lazy gift, period. Hence the ACTUAL gift for the hostess. The actual question is how far should I push it. I'm still finding the line between trying too hard and being polite.
