Weirdest thing happened to me yesterday during a phone screening. Things were going well, I was answering questions confidently and bonding with the interviewer. I was a little nervous but not too bad. The interviewer asked me to go over my resume, usually not an issue and I know it well; i'd rehearsed what i wanted to say. Then, part way through, I felt my chest get tight, breathing became difficult, my heart started beating super fast. My thoughts started going blank so I just stuck to vague walkthroughs of my resume and tried not to let on what was happening. Once I got the interviewer to start speaking again I had a chance to calm down. After recovering I continued to answer questions well and responded with good questions. The interviewer closed with some next steps stuff, salary questions, when I'd be available to start.
I used to have trouble with something similar to this when speaking publicly but I took some courses and joined toastmasters until it wasn't an issue. I looked up the symptoms and it sounds like an "anxiety attack". I was looking forward to that interview but I already have an incoming offer with another company so it's not that big of a deal. I hear back tomorrow on the results of the phone screening, maybe i'll get another chance maybe not; whatever it's fine.
Has anyone else learned how this shit works? It was spooky and I'd like to get better at handling my emotions in pressure situations / general worrying.
