In a cold open, if she's walking away, you're not going to get anywhere by not pursuing. In your shoes, I would have asked her if she wanted to step downstairs and take a look at the item.
Yes, it looks a little needy; but you're not running Long Game on this one. If she walks away, you're done anyway.
However - if she gives a lukewarm response, she's clearly not interested. Eject and next.

"There is this one neat painting of <blah blah blah> in the basement, you should have a look." Pause for 1 second while maintaining eye contact. If she bites and asks you where it is, show her the way. If she just says "oh ok thanks", then just walk away and move on with your life.
