The term Sigma Male is being tossed around frequently as of late.

The general consensus is that a sigma male is someone who has some inherent Alpha traits (charisma, confidence, stoicism, intelligence, strong social skills) but prefers to isolate himself most of the time. They are seen as introverts who possess the skills needed for social dominance but for the most part do not use them out of personal preference.

If I unknowingly read that definition, my default reaction would be "Oh so I am a sigma male" as it's an attractive 'type' to be, the cool lone wolf, and I can relate to some of its so-called traits: I am not socially awkward, I can hold conversations with anyone easily, I am confident... however I prefer to be alone most of the time. I don't care if I am seen as an alpha or beta (or sigma). I work on my own projects and rarely invite others to join me unless I can benefit from their help/expertise. I socialize frequently but would prefer 1-on-1s over groups. This goes for men an women.

Now, my question is... Is a sigma male just a label that betas give themselves to excuse their social isolation and to flip their negative traits into positives? Is identifying as a Sigma a form of male-hamstering? "I am not a beta, just a special snowflake Alpha. I am different!"

Similarly to beta guys who have zero game and cannot get laid claiming they are 'MGTOW' and 'chose to not partake in the dating game.' Like playing a game of chess, losing, then saying "I wasn't even trying anyway."

Also, do you know of any historical figures that are bonafied 'sigma males'?
