Depends. What do you want with your plate? Do you want to be a thing? Or, are you unsure?

If unsure, be honest about it. “I don’t know” or “haven’t thought about it” literally all you have to say.

If no. You can tell her no. Or you can say what you would say if you were unsure. Just don’t tell her yes, or imply that you are looking for a relationship.

If yes, we’ll you probably want to clarify what a “thing” is to her. A thing is probably different for everyone. That being said, it’s still better to go with the unsure response. As it’s weird for girls to negotiate sex, it’s weird for guys to negotiate commitment. You can probably just tell her “I want to see where this goes, but that’s all I can say for now”.

My response would probably have been something like "Well considering that you're a thing, and I'm a thing, and that things can be comprised of other things, I suppose that you and I together would constitute a thing." which would obviously be dodging the question. Is there a reason you didn't just ask her to clarify?
