Here's a simple system.

1) Go out, so your thing, with the goal of not speaking. As little as possible. You are only allowed to communicate through action. I recommend a group of people you're comfortable wit(know well) justify it if you must, "really sore throat, a lot on your mind, or something"

2) record what actions worked which ones didn't. Repeat every week until you've internalized that your actions count louder than words. (jumping up and dancing on the table is funnier than saying wouldn't it be funny if someone did that)

3) realize the quality of attention from acting a certain way is much higher than speaking a certain way.

Done. Now you've learned to shut up, and at the same time to appease the need for attention.

Some guy pm'd me the same question the other day. I'm just going to copy and paste the answer I gave him below.

For me I had to develop the best IDGAF attitude. I also had to get confident.

Scenario One:

It's high school. I'm not very popular, so when I talk to the popular kids I would consciously or unconsciously look for social validation. I wanted them to like me, take me to their parties etc... This is also associated with having a low SMV. This never got me anywhere, I was a loser.

Then came college...

Scenario Two:

Freshman year of college is over and I've hit the gym, I made friends (social proof) in college that I didn't have in high school, women are more attracted to me, etc.. (I improved my life, raised my SMV). I'm confident now. Last week at a 4th of July party all the "cool kids" from high school were there. I talked to them, but didn't care about social validation from them because in my mind I was already validated. I was confident enough in myself that I didn't need anyone else's opinions of me. As an added bonus, I ended up getting laid at the party because of my attitude.

Remember this...

IDGAF attitude/Confidence comes from knowing that I'm not shit, you're not shit, he's not shit, and she's not shit.. None of us matter in the big picture.

Once you realize that, you'll stop caring so much about what everybody else thinks of you.

How are you exactly trying to get attention? Are you like constantly cracking jokes or something?
