I try to do the "talk to everyone" thing. I say hi, or make comments to people in the elevator, the doorman, people at work, wherever. This rarely goes anywhere. the conversation seems to just end. I know that I need to open more, but most people are social and don't open to girls that often.

I observe others and think that they are different. For example, after my group salsa classes everyone is standing around for a while. Not talking much -- not sure what they are doing. I feel awkward and just I leave -- I have no reason to stay and hang around. Am I just scared and I want to get the fuck out?

Similar thing when I arrive to the classes. I just go to the room and wait for it to start. but others don't do that, they seem to come in the room later.

This reminds me of when I was in highschool. I would finish a class and just go right to the next one. but people seem to stop and be social.

However, I am very good at being social when I speak in Spanish. There is one older lady from Chile that I always talk to and it feels very fun and natural. I love talking to her. I have seen friendships go to hell after friends learn English and I am dry/boring in English. English is my first language -- so people don't often talk to me in Spanish.

Speaking in Spanish I really have the "I don't give a fuck" attitude. I had one girl tell me that she didn't want to talk to me in English any more -- I was like a different person speaking Spanish.

I know something is wrong -- I do it all perfectly right in Spanish. I can't move to latin america -- no way in hell I can make anything near 150k as a software engineer out of the the US.

any ideas?

I think that what I speak Spanish I am more motivated to hold a conversation. Like I might hear a new word or I can use a new phrase. Maybe I seem more active in the conversation since my brain is activated?
