Read somewhere on the main sub that "buddy" isn't the term of endearment people make it out to be. Seems it's true, but only in most contexts.

For example, I ran into a girl at work today. She initiates with "Hey, [name], how's it going bud?" Drawn out, maybe a little awkward, but there's still that "bud". I'm not sure what to make of it.

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for interpretation.
