Hold up you got a degree in mechanical engineering and are thinking about accounting. Bruh that’s a little off the rocks to begin with let alone the whole island! Lol,

You already spent all that time gaining that experience, and accounting pays less

Your people’s are right do what you want! But what does that look like?

I’m graduating in computer science soon and will go back for an engineering degree because I WANT to. Do you want the accounting experience?

The money is just a means to an end, what exactly do you want?

It sounds like you want to travel, so travel! Why waste time becoming an accountant to live as an accountant on an accountant island when you rather be engineering somewhere like Dubai leveraging your high class honors.

It also sounds like you have low lifestyle creep, figure out what your minimum is to live off of annually invest the rest to make enough off the dividends for what you require. This will free up your mind from feeling the “need” to acquire money to live.

$777,000 is about $35,000 a year in dividends. If you can invest that much and live off of 35,000 you could theoretically achieve your plan of traveling extensively much sooner than your late 30s while also securing for yourself a path to early retirement.

Life also isn’t a race who gives a rats ass about what people are doing. Life is about sticktutidness or whatever the fuck. You’re already on the right path it’s called education and improvement. Don’t be a simp and you good, sounds like you’re waves ahead

Also most aren’t where you are even in their 40s and beyond. You’re already in the top percentage of xyz categories for simply having the degree.

Join the personal finance sub reddit and maybe the fire subreddit (financial independence and retire early) only 10% of US citizens make above $100,000 - even m less of a percentage worldwide.

Your first goal should be increasing your labor per hour as much as you can until you can effectively offset your labor per hour and living costs with passive income.

Balancing your labor per hour with the risk of not having financial freedom can lead you to retiring on more but at the risk of retiring later. (Using that 777,777 to start a business instead of investing it for instance)

You’ve got most of the biggest hurdle out of the way, increasing your labor per hour is the most important step- then securing your future- then increasing your passive gains.

Labor per hour caps around 250,000 unless you have a professional degree (medical and lawyers around 350,000) and tech executives can reach upwards of like 600,000-900,000.

Finding a job and leveraging your position every two years to increase your salary is your best bet right now unless getting a masters or PhD would net you more in your specific case.

After trending on that for a while, you should secure your future gains/livelihood (some choose to do this later but I’d rather do it now since we don’t know the state of the world later on)

Others choose to use the money head on to invest in opportunities to make passive income like chain restaurants, real estate, and emerging markets. It ties up more of their money but they make more money in the long if the odds are with them. If not then they’re back to square one which is why I opt for securing your future first

Afterwords I would suggest investing passively into things until your passive annual income can support your lifestyle. (Don’t let lifestyle creep happen it’s not worth it lol)

Then have fun you’re not a slave and can really choose how to enjoy life lol

Party all day or save the world by making change-

The real question is whether you hand the money off to your kids or not since struggle creates success

You got a degree that has some usefulness. The next step is to get a job. The next step is not to get another degree in something else that you have no idea if you will like or not.

Move to the mainland, get an entry level engineering or computer job or whatever job that will have you. If you are lucky, the job you get is in a high margin business. Work your ass off to learn on this new job. Currently you know nothing. Next step is to learn on the job. You should work hard, learn, have a good attitude and strive for a couple promotions. Soon you will be doing more interesting work, you will have some responsibility and you will be showing the new guys what to do.

One day some douchbag salesperson in your office will be going to visit a client and will need some technical support that knows their ass from a hole in the ground to go with him and be able to speak intelligently in front of the client. You will be chosen to go on this business trip. This is your entry into corporate travel. Thankfully, you will have been practicing your communication skills by taking Toastmaster classes, and thankfully you will have been lifting these last few years and thankfully your wardrobe is on point so you don't look like a nerd. You impress at the client meeting, get a promotion when you get back, the salesguy asks you for more client meeting, that first client offers you a job in his company etc, etc.

Don’t fight for your purpose, she’s been inside you this entire time.. You know what must be done to achieve the “Nirvana” you seek and if you truly believe it comes from amassing capital, you’ll make it work. But deeply reflect on your mortality and what you wish to accomplish before it’s all said n done, then the truth shall emerge.

My guy you should check out the book Efficiency by Wall Street Playboys they give you a nice outline on what you need to do as a young man to find your path career wise. It’s a fairly short read and really invaluable regarding careers. Also be sure to check out their blog since they go indepth into how to create wealth. They are all big swinging dicks in Wall Street and know why they are talking about

in the end. it doesnt matter where you end up if you arent happy. work as i see it is a chore you do to get money you dont have to do things you enjoy. until you are lucky enough to have enough money not to have to do a job you dont want. you're gonna be fucked doing it everyday. so choose something you also enjoy but can tolerate for a while (most of your life) then. you can give it all up and truly focus on your goals you had. if money is what youre after then sure the financial sector is a good pathway. its not easy or fun or simple, but youll get a lot of cheese. so go through with it. i will tell you if you are not into the financial sector for its core pleasure. you will have a shocking wake up call when you start learning in school and working in the sector. thats its not what you expected and is more tedious than you'd imagine. i got my bachelors in business administration. ready to take on the world. got my foot in the door at bank of america. moved up a couple roles. till the pressure and mundane scenery became unbearable. left it but had some money saved up. used half to travel the other half to leisure at life while i took time of in a mediocre entry level job outside my field. finally got bored again and went back to my career.

You can do a Master's degree in a subject like Econometrics or Mathematical / Computational Finance, although you probably need to a do a pre-master degree because with an Engineering bachelor you have most of the mathematical skills but not the knowdledge required. These degrees pave the road for really high paying entry jobs (eg as quant or even trader) at finance firms and banks, where you're surely be able to travel.

You can also try to go into (strategy) consultancy, which means even more travelling although a somewhat lower starting salary. There's no dedicated master's degree for this in my country.

This is what my mentor told me. No one and literally no one is going to hold your hand and show you how to make money. In the recent Elon musk JRE he said too many smart people are going into finance and law, and not enough people are building. Whatever you choose always focus on specific knowledge. Rather the funny coincidence is that I did mechanical engineering too & am 24 now. I started in finance picked up a few key pieces of knowledge such as doing business in global markets. I'm from Africa btw so this is kinda a big deal and I got a hold of few big(private) clients and now I offer consulting services. Finance isn't my cup of coffee its so boring to me unless you are in certain branches so I got off it. As I was interacting around I managed to get an offer in enterprise sales, and I signed with the company which is based in the west. But also I managed to do coding because deep down I love building stuff. Nasim Taleb once said the robust plan is always Trial & error. Hope this helps OP
