If you're actually smart you could get into a top law school or business school and try again. Otherwise you're going to have to play catchup because you are behind. I'm in a similar situation. Not behind, but middle of the road so I'm weighing the same options.

You could always continue with the Masters program/your own business while you keep trying to find something. Might give you some experience while you're at it.

The current environment favours doing your own thing rather than finding a "career job" type scenario imo.

"How to get a job.

First things first everyone knows this and it's worth mentioning again, networking ! Every job I have had (excluding my current career) I have attained through friends, do not underestimate the importance of networking!

For those who are yet to get a career started, I'm going to tell you how I got mine going. To boil it down it took 200 applications, 50 phone interviews, 8 Assessment centres and 5 actual interviews. It's a process, it's something you can not give up on. I got lucky with the job I am now but I created my own luck by putting myself out there again and again. So first things first you need determination , commitment and discipline.

Next push your ego aside , a rejection is bringing you closer to a yes! Don't take it personally you just don't know how to display yourself in a way that the interviewer was looking for ( we'll touch on this later).

Do your research on the job you're applying for, have questions ready that convey that you understand the role completely " am I correct in believing xxxx?". The one question I came across the most was " tell me of your understanding of the role",

Assessment centres ! Fuck me I have a love hate relationship of these places, they're structured like the hunger games where 40 of you are forced to compete for a limited amount of jobs. My first few assessment centres I crumbled when I had to speak in front of people and I didn't make it very far. I did however look at who was making it through and I'd copy there mannerisms, things they said and their dress code to give me a better chance. I conquered my fear of talking to large groups by using Prozac aha! Group tasks grab the pen and paper first, track the time for the task, ultimately do anything proactive and give yourself value to the group. You'll meet a lot of oak trees in assessment centres and they're the people who are the loudest and make it hard for others to get a say in, they always make it through to the last round . It's best to take some elements of the oak tree type person but be more diplomatic, take control of the group by agreeing with points but making it clear that you want to hear xxxxs opinion on the matter or would xxxxx like to add anything to the discussion before we agree on a point ? Also most importantly be funny and original when introducing yourself in the beginning.

Interviews: create a portfolio of the company you are interviewing for. There logo , interviewers name, position you're interviewing for and your name on the front cover. The next page should be filled with every last scrap of info in bullet points that you can find on the company. Are they on the stock market? Who are their competitors ? How long have they been trading for? Are there any new.products ? Amongst the obvious things to include. The next few pages should be on yourself. Give three examples of each of the following : your communication skills , motivations , experiences of resilience , hard work , times of leadership , proudest achievement, strengths .You bring this with you to the interview along with paper and a pen and you sit it all on the desk. The paper and pen you're going to use to write anything you find interesting that the interviewer says down.

The first question the interviewer is going to ask is "so tell me about yourself, what have you been up to recently" and you're going to answer it like this " well mr interviewer I could talk about myself all day in fact it's one of my favourite topics but your time is valuable and I don't want to waste it , can you tell me what you are looking to hear ?" And answer accordingly.

Next when they ask you specific questions about yourself ask them if it's ok if you refer to the complete answers you have already made around the subject. It's not a memory test they won't have an issue with this !

Ask them for the fucking job at the end ! Something like " from what I've seen today and from meeting you I can tell that I'd really like it here, tell me what id need to do to get this job ?"

If they answer with "we have other people to interview we'll let you know ". Respond with " that's fair enough you're allowed to do that, however Mr interviewer there's always going to be someone else to interview, you're obviously looking for a specific quality in your ideal candidate that I might be lacking or haven't had the chance to demonstrate yet" let the interviewer answer and then show that quality.

Questions to ask " what qualities would you say your star employ has and do I have any of them?" ," what can I do to prepare myself for this job role ?" , "do you have any big plans for growth for your company?".

The above information was learned from experience and taught by a professional recruiter."

Find out what you WANT to do. If money isn't a big deal to you, try working in a trade, like carpentry or mechanics. Don't limit yourself to the box you've put yourself in.
