My 2¢

Arrogance is the mindset that you are better than those around you. They are lesser, you are superior.

Confidence is the mindset that you can handle any situation, overcome any obstacle, achieve any goal and come out on top.

My two cents: my ex used to complain all the time that I was arrogant. But she loved it anyway.

Once I stopped being arrogant, she stopped respecting me. So do it.

Also, arrogant = dark triad bro.

Be charming, but that too is a very indefinite concept. Put on a confident smirk and talk with a playful attitude without taking yourself too serious. It's generally just about being likable while remaining confident.

Of course there's also times where you have to be authoritarian, but in most social situations it's more important to be charmingly confident instead of authoritarian confident.

I have sat in a room, completely silent, not saying anything and people have accused me of being "arrogant".

Arrogance and confidence are confused, and they shouldn't be. They are VERY VERY different.

You will be perceived as arrogant if you don't "mingle", no matter if you feel you aren't good enough to be part of a group. You could be sending compliments all over the place on how awesome people are, and you'll still be seen as arrogant because you'll be seen as a "parent giving compliments".

The way you don't look arrogant is by interacting, laughing, making jokes, even bad ones, and showing you are willing to get your hands dirty with a group.

You will always seem arrogant in a group otherwise, no matter how you feel internally.

The best way to seem confident is to Agree and Amplify when negative comments are directed at you, NEVER explain yourself, and know WHEN to just not say a word, and just smile or make eye contact.

Confidence is knowing that you are.

Focus on other people instead of yourself. What are you doing for others? What interest are you taking in them?
