I've always been a polite guy, it's just how parents raised me. I don't mean a supplicating doormat pushover with no spine. What I mean is when someone does something for me I say "thank you" and when I ask for something I say "please". When someone texts me, I always respond (eventually) and when I can't make it to a plan, I cancel in advance and give a reason why with an option to reschedule. Literally just basic human decency stuff.

What I've noticed is that while the guys I hang out with appreciate this and reciprocate, the girls (plates I'm spinning) seem to feel this is neediness/weakness. If a girl flakes on me because "she's sick" and I respond, "thank for the heads up, feel better", I won't even get a "thanks" or a response at all. If I don't respond to her message flaking she'll initiate as early as the next day and we'll hang out. I've noticed that responding ANYTHING to a message flaking decreases the chances of another meetup. I've been better off just not even acknowledging the flake. If I ask a girl for something and say "please" I can almost feel she's doing it reluctantly. If I just demand she does something she does it happily. I feel that being polite puts me at a disadvantage and makes me enter her frame. I also feel that girls my age (20) don't appreciate politeness so they just view it as weakness. I'm struggling with this as this is the way I was raised by my parents. I see their "normal" behavior as rude and I feel disrespected.

Has anyone else noticed this? Should I just save this type of behavior for other guys/friends? Am I right to feel disrespected or am I being too sensitive?

Cheers
