Girls in swing dancing will generally be a lot more closed off to men approaching. Flash news: you're not the only dude looking for chicks there and, unlike bars, many of them are not there looking to meet someone. I would say do long-term game. Gain reputation; get good (practice at home by yourself). Have fun every time you go, don't just try to pull all night every time. Conversations while on the dance floor don't generally flow smoothly: better to talk to them while sitting out.

I've danced a few styles over the years including swing and pnt9 is absolutely correct. You will get kino opportunities, yes; but actual IOI's are way harder to read because the signal is so noisy. I would be especially careful about when and how you try to pull: the reputation as the thirsty guy who took up dancing just to pull can be really hard to shake. I've seen it happen to people in my scene.

It can be a hell of a lot of fun, but rein in your expectations. There's very little time to talk during classes because the teachers are speaking. During socials people pair off, dance and play with each other for a bit and expect it to mean nothing. I've had incredibly close and intimate dances with people, despite neither of us having any intention of seducing the other. Also, the social hierarchy on the floor is very strongly determined by skill. I have seen stunningly beautiful women lining up to dance with otherwise unremarkable men because of the guy's skill and rep. In this environment, it took a very long time for my local status to shift from consuming value to producing it. (Even then, I was never truly high-status.) Don't neglect your lifting, diet, presentation etc., as they will compound with skill gains to increase your in-scene value. Plus they're much more useful out-of-scene.

One more thing: know the political climate in your scene. There's a good chance that it's capital-P Progressive and may even be thoroughly SJW'd.

Dancing has done really good things for me:

Made me much more comfortable with casual touch. This should be self-explanatory.
Got me used to approaching people (and getting rejected). Generally men still have to approach, which is going to be great practice for you. Most people are good about dancing with newbies (that's how the scene survives) and rejections are usually polite. There is sometimes a narrow band of snobs at the mid-high end of the social hierarchy (some people just want to be big fish in the small pond), but then the top-tier teachers and so on are usually pretty good.
Provided a structured social situation that's good to practice in. I could turn up just there to dance, because the social nights basically run on a script and you don't have to do much more than trade names before or after the dance. After a good dance, people are often more open to each other (you've just made each other feel great) and you can talk a bit. But remember, most people are there to dance: the conversations aren't going to be long and deep.

In summary: It's a lot of fun and a great way to work on yourself. But don't expect to be drowning in women straight off.

yes be very very careful. The IOI you see is part of dancing, they are probably not really interested in you. If you are fun to dance with they will smile and enjoy themselves. If you are a terrible dancer they will still smile and enjoy themselves, they are dancing which is partly acting.

Also never, ever, ever turn a girl down no matter how old or ugly.
