I've had these 2 friends since high school who happen to be a couple. Since high school, the guy has always be on the shyer side of the spectrum, but still probably normal. Since starting college a few years ago, I think he's gone off the deep end with social anxiety. Not to mention he acts like a complete pussy with her, she wears the pants in the relationship. The girl has always had depression issues, used to be a cutter, occasional panic attacks/has anxiety.
They both piss me off to no end. Complete victim mentality, taking no responsibility for their state whatsoever. The things they do make it even worse. Listening to emo-whiny music all the time- yeah I'm sure that'll help. Neither exercise at all. Tried telling the girl to do it, tried insisting that she meditates. Nope. They put no effort into climbing themselves out of the hole they're in.
So when I made it known that after the years of hearing her bitch & complain about depression/anxiety, I didn't want to fucking hear about it anymore and was tired of it, being an insensitive asshole about it, I get answers like "I can't help I have chemical imbalances in my brain." I used to believe that, not so much anymore.
They're kinda toxic to me in some ways but I try not to let it get to me. I want to help them but I really can't get them to see the light, they're completely consumed by learned helplessness.
I know a lot of guys here pulled themselves out of depression through self-improvement...lend some advice on how to handle this?
