LTR for 1.5 years. Aware I lack abundance in the situation I am about to describe but after spending so long with somebody I think that's only natural.

Girlfriend is Asian. Very pleasant. Very intelligent. No issues or red flags up till now. She's been in my home country for most of this time. Isn't enjoying it at all and sees her future elsewhere. She is very keen to move to the UK. I like the idea too, but unfortunately did not do well enough in an interview to move to London, which is where she'd like to go to continue her studies, so I would not be able to join her this year.

She works here and would find it difficult to carry on without her job in my country, but she absolutely hates it and is desperate to do something else. Her CV is also highly specialized so it's unlikely she'd find another job.

She strongly dislikes her life over here besides me and is fully prepared to move even if that doesn't include me.

No issues in the relationship otherwise.

She's prioritizing her own life (and rightly so I suppose) over this relationship with me. She would leave in around 3 or 4 months.

I've asked if she would consider staying her for a while until I can apply again, whether she can do some studies here or, indeed, do anything just for a while until I can apply again and we can possibly head over there together. She isn't changing her mind at all.

So I told her if that's the case then we might as well split up then as I don't want to be strung along. She admitted she probably wasn't making the relationship as much of a priority as I was (I told her that at this stage, I would consider making short-term sacrifices to keep it going, as it's pretty sweet).

So that's what I did. I said it's probably best if we stop seeing eachother now. I left her in tears. I know she's upset right now and she really is into me but at the same time I didn't see she was willing to make the same sacrifices I was trying to make for her.

I'm really pissed off by all this. It's a really decent relationship otherwise. Did I do the right thing in ending it?
