initiate conversations with women because through banter, teasing, and playfulness, you want to see what adventure you two can get into. You spew bullshit because you want to see how far you two will take it, you do this just for kicks.

I had to read this twice because it seemed a little confusing. But I'll answer your question with a way of thinking:

Life is a series of transactions. Everything that you do. Whether it's talking to a friend, going to eat with people, or helping someone. It all has a cost. The one of the most limited resources of your entire life. Time. So when you decide to do something /involve yourself in someone else's affairs ask yourself. Is it worth the cost of time that I could be investing somewhere else?
