I think oneitis is a combination of things, with varying degrees of inflammation/severity.

Not having other options, seeing this one as your far and away best option, if this is the hottest/coolest/whateverest girl you've ever been with, etc. It's like there are certain factors which can drive or further your perception of loss.

It's also the harsh gap between whatever bullshit future scenarios your imagination had concocted with oneitis chick vs what's real (she goooone man), and your ego's resistance toward accepting reality.

I think oneitis is just the result of you longing for the ~~frame you once had.~~ mythical mother figure you never actually had.

I think It's a common form of Neoteny. in men. Neoteny in women shouldn't surprise you.

For whatever reason you respond to emotional distress and fear by regressing and wanting to run home to momma.

It's not that complicated.

The whole bullshit story that the media gives you is that someday the love of your life will walk in and be a game-changer is what latches on to our instinctual man desires and produces ONEitis.

When put in that frame, your life mission becomes finding THE ONE and making her happy.

TRP is the game changer. Most of the biological needs can be met by spinning plates. Once maturity has been achieved and one person is found worthy of joining me on the ride, I'll start a family with her. But now my life mission involves her, it is not her.

i think that in most cases it is a failure of culture / society.

guys aren't educated about briffault's law. they think that they can relax on women and invest time in their career (for example). so they trust that the woman will "fulfill her part of the bargain" while they invest their time elsewhere.
