You're 19, why are you relying on either parent?

My mother doesn't let me get a job since I have to live at home to resit - I do work for my uncle programming during the weeks but it's either my mothers way or the highway. I'm from the UK by the way so plenty of people resit living at home if they miss their a2s.

I'm asking for real advice here. I know I should have moved out but I want to be a doctor more than anything so I have to dedicate my time to revision, they've offered to partially pay my fees so I need their support.

You failed your tests and you want to be a doctor?
That's...interesting.

I didn't fail I missed each one by 2 marks. I also had family and illness troubles in the run-up so it's a miracle I got as close as I did.

You've got an amazing Rolodex of excuses for everything.

You're not helping at all here, I'd rather you stop commenting now please.

Come back to this thread in 4 years and see how accurate I was.

But I'm not making excuses, the only reason I'm allowed to re apply for medical school and have my offer waiting is because I have a certified letter from the doctor and my school in regards to why I didn't get my grades. My track record backs it up as well...

This problem sounds incredibly temporary and not a huge deal for how you will set your life.

fine - highway, go to your dads and study
[–]omnip0tent19 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
that's what I want to do at heart, but my mum has stuck by me since he left even though I've had to put up with a lot of shit from her. I'm forced to pick sides between them and I want a relationship with them both.
[–]dRePe_Thill0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
irrelevant, you aren't picking sides.. this is doing what's best for you. You are a man now and need to begin your life's purpose, she will understand in the future, it will be hard for her to let go of you.

This. Thanks man simplified it for me.
[–]dRePe_Thill0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
no problem, you will have tough choices ahead, but that is part of being a man. good luck and study hard

I will do man, thanks a lot it's the only career I can see myself devoting myself to so that's it. It's hard to not take sides when your parents divorce is bad I suppose.
"My mother is overbearing, pushy and I don't feel I'm allowed the space to become the man I want to be. "
This is an excuse, you need to put yourself first so whatever you need to do to help you pass that exam(s).
Okay I understand. It isn't an excuse though mate, when I'm not allowed my phone I pay for, to go out to bars or train MMA unless I complete X amount of work for her then that does limit me.
Yes I know moving to my dads would give me the space I need to pass but my main worry is her cutting me off completely for 'betraying her' and not having a relationship with her and she turning my brother and sister against me.
