my dad is the classic nice guy and my mom is a controlling perfectionist. I always thought they were perfect growing up and I would do anything in my power to please them, including lying my ass off.

I developed nice guy syndrome as a result, and I've just begin realizing it within the last few years and making changes.

But since I started improving myself I've begun to have some negative feelings towards my parents. I love them but they're getting on my nerves.

My mom is so irrational and controlling. She tries to use my struggles against me and tries to open me up emotionally and make me vulnerable. She is too attached to me and attaches her emotional happiness to mine. She still babies me even if I specifically instruct her to let me take care of my own shit. Just yesterday, she told me what I HAD to wear to a wedding I'm going to..

My dad is too nice. He owns a business and doesn't know when to turn down a client. He is working 7 days a week in an attempt to please all the unnecessary clients he takes on. He is even doing stuff on the side in his free time for people who never do anything for him in return. Then he gets angry about these people behind their back due to their demands but never stands up to them. He also gets bitter about people who are more successful than him.

I just feel like my parents are living vicariously through me. They care more about my perfection than they do their own lives. I'm an only child and they spoiled me to shit and I had an amazing childhood. But it didn't prepare me for life. I have no common sense, and was over protected and missed out on a bunch of shit other kids got to experience. I think I watched my first R movie when I was 16...

Wtf do I do to cope with this shit but maintain a good relationship to my parents?
