How do I avoid explaining myself?

You're confusing explaining yourself when no one asks you and explaining yourself when explanation is demanded.

If you happen to have a conversation that builds up rapport and she asks for insight on your perspective, oblige her, but don't go on for too long. If not insight is demanded, don't give any. That is what people mean.

To give a concrete example, let's say she asks you a question that is relevant to your personality and irrelevant to your social or financial value i.e. : "What kind of music do you like?". Let's say your tastes are out of the ordinary and you respond " I like opera, you? ". Unless she asks you " Why do you like opera ", simply leave your response at that. By not justifying, you show that liking opera or whatever music genre it is that you like is cool and that justifying your musical taste is not needed.
