You need to let her know that she's trying to move things towards a direction you aren't interested in. You can do it via text if she starts pushing you via text. There's no need to soften it up beyond what it is. She's going to think you're a jerk no matter how you do it. It all comes down to your happiness. Act with an ethic. Best of luck

Coming off like a jerk in whose estimation? Certainly you don't think she's going to have an unbiased opinion. After it sinks in she'll likely be pissed that she didn't strike first.

Say it in one sentence. I do it in person, away from the crowd, but not so I have to give her a ride home. Don't hang around to "give her emotional support"; you're ending it, right? And you've read enough to know that you couldn't possibly explain your action to her satisfaction.

Cut the ties and simply move on. Trust me, she'll find her way.
