Crime in North America maybe higher than the EU according to some statistics but it's heavy concentrated in specific areas. The US and Canada are ghettoized much like the no go zones you see reported on in the UK/EU.

If you aren't in these areas you are virtually crime free. For example Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg have all been the murder capital of Canada over the past 15 years. However it's mostly specifically in poor areas by the aboriginal population on the aboriginal population.

If you look at the Trail of tears non sense aboriginal women are killed at a ratio of 3 to 1 vs other groups. Aboriginal men are five times higher then that.

The poor blacks in america and aboriginal groups in Canada have similar problems.

I have lived in 10 major cities in Canada and 2 in the US including Detroit when it was bad. I doubt I ever interacted with anyone who killed someone even in defense outside of maybe a police officer.

These problems are very focused in specific areas. Look at the heat map for crime in Regina for example.

Roughly 25 blocks. One of the most dangerous cities in the country statistically and it's all in one area. I doubt you will find someone from this area in my experience because it's largely the extreme problem people of society living off the state.

In the RP sense, meaning you are aware of all the implications and mentally mature enough to understand everything, in the end, it can be an enriching experience. - Ultimately - it depends on how, who & whom; one life (eg some male scientist) can be worth (much) more than another (eg some female addict) .. so, that can affect the result of the whole process.

I can't speak to killing but I can speak to experiencing deafh. From my experience with death in my community and family seeing loved ones and neighbors get sick and die, hit by cars, or shot to death I generally find myself increasingly calm. The pressure and danger focuses the mind.
