sometimes the pages catch alight because im scribbling my interpretations so furiously

Never. I'll just read it again later

I have sticky note page markers that I like to mark certain passages with. They help big time when I want to go back and refer to something.

This is something that ebooks would be better for but I really like physical books.

Not at all. I usually don't look back at the books that I've already read. I feel like that's time for new concepts. If I can't remember something, it probably wasn't worth it in the first place.

Thats's the feeling im on the fence about. I could relate it to taking notes during a lecture, but some say that just distracts you from learning

The difference is that your lecturer won't stop and let you take notes. You read at your own pace.

I'm an efficiency guy. One word texts, minimal punctuation. If I'm putting in 50pct extra work while I'm reading, I need to retain 50pct more knowledge.

Big picture. You can either remember a stacked routine, or you can remember to not invest too much in the girl. I feel like canned material works, but I'm not going to spend hours in different venues honing in delivery and timing like a stand-up comedian.

I take notes because I've found that when I wrote things down it helps me remembe it better. But I agree with the sentiment here and pretty much never reread books.
