My favorite easy meal is pan-fried salmon and sautéed broccolette. Optionally, you can also include rice. Fruit for dessert between rounds of banging. I recommend frozen bag of mixed berries that you can defrost.

This. Gay does mean SJW. SJWs are insufferable closet fascists. I would NOT want to live with one. Gay people are just individuals. Judge them as individuals. They could make for a great roommate, or a bad one.

FWIW I had to go outside insurance and drop some serious $$$ on a holistic-oriented psychiatrist (talk therapy, neurofeedback, medication) to finally find someone who got through to me. I went through several professionals in the years beforehand that didn’t. So just keep looking until you find the right one.

This can probably be fixed quite handily with correctly graded exposure therapy. You’re not a narcissist but they have just as much right to exist as you.

I 100% believe that neurofeedback therapy and meditation can be honest-to-god cures for ADHD. I’ve been putting some serious effort into my meditation practice (going up to 30, 45, and even 60 minute sessions daily) and it’s really paying off.

Law of attraction is just the same thing as “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity” and the inverse of ”you miss every shot you don’t take.” To find or achieve something you have to seek it. That’s what happens when the “law of attraction” comes to fruition. It’s not magic.

You have more neuroplasticity. Great time to instill good habits. Good time for learning and training all kinds of knowledge and skills. Bad time to waste away on any bad habits. It’s only gonna get harder to change them the older you get.

Keep an open dialogue with your superiors about the problems and stress, but with a problem-solving/can-do attitude. Some feedback I once had from a superior who left me a negative review was that I internalized stress and workload too much. He said I needed to “make [my] problems other people’s problems,” by delegating to team members and communicating issues to superiors better. Idk if this applies to your situation or not but hopefully it helps.

Yes it’s a weakness. Sympathetic arousal (“fight or flight”) serves to enhance gross motor movements to help you survive in dangerous situations (so you can run away to safety, fight, etc.) but it is detrimental to fine motor coordination and problem solving. In contrast, highly trained men who work in stressful situations (like military special operators, pilots, astronauts, first responders, etc.) are trained to remain calm. Your coworkers are just letting themselves fall victim to their base …

Someone could easily pull a weapon on you in a situation like this and everything could go very bad very quickly. Regular practice of breathing exercises (nasal breathing, 2:1 ratio of exhale:inhale, etc.) and meditation can help develop your ability to calm yourself down. Cold exposure like ice baths combined with breathing exercises can also help develop the ability to calm yourself down when stressed. Remaining calm and controlling your breathing is key, if you just let yourself freak out the…

This is how people with ADHD operate. Normal demands for a task are not stimulating enough (consequences too far in future). They procrastinate until the sense of urgency is overwhelming and try to marathon the whole task in a short period of time. This leads to chronic stress and burnout. It’s a horrible way to operate. I recommend a focused meditation practice. Neurofeedback therapy if you can afford it. This develops your ability to calmly maintain/redirect your attention at will.

Chronic cannabis consumption can cause symptoms similar to ADHD. Anxiety and neuroticism as welll. Look up published research reviews (a review of the scientific literature) if you want more details. Occasional use is likely no big deal but the key is “occasional.” It can be a slippery slope.

I have a close friend who’s a natural like this. He’s seemingly one of those most well adjusted people I know...and he did an intense tour of combat in Afghanistan. I always figured maybe things just don’t phase him after he dealt with bullets flying at him and learning the value of life from losing friends. He says those lost were better men and he must live life to the fullest to honor them, or else their sacrifice was for nothing. Anyways, good question. I should ask him.

Bro these are horrific tragic losses. What you’re feeling is normal. Don’t be hard on yourself for it. Yes we must strive to stoically accept the fact of death but it’s a hard fucking task, and that’s ok if it takes a hell of a lot of work. Let yourself grieve but also make sure you keep moving. That article you linked is correct. For some reason “stay retracted” is a popular misconception. When rowing you should go from slight protraction to retraction as you pull the weight towards you.
/r/askTRP01/01/20 02:19 AM
1

You shouldn’t be keeping it retracted the whole time. Scaps should move between protraction and retraction with the arms in a single coordinated motion as you push or pull. This is called “scapulohumeral rhythm.” My physical therapist taught me this. Kabuki Strength (headed by record holding powerlifter Chris Duffin) has posted about the concept on their social media too.

You handled it perfectly. It’s not a problem at all if you engage in a lot of foreplay and go for another round after. In fact they’ll usually like it and take it as a compliment. It’s possible gen z is socially retarded due to smart phones. But idk, I would think that being used to being around people in school every day would help counteract that. One thing I know for sure tho is that older dudes have supreme DGAF abilities. Practicing a martial art probably makes them even more confident too. Sounds like a good environment for you.

Go see a physical therapist. Also see this vid - https://youtu.be/qzGOcEuct54 You need to have proper positioning of pelvis and rib cage to facilitate correct diaphragmatic breathing patterns for proper Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP) to stabilize the spine while lifting. Hopefully you can find a physical therapist who can help you navigate that. Stuart McGill is also a good source of information, he’s written books you can look into.

A good psychotherapist isn’t supposed to really impart any value judgements, but help you navigate and come to your own conclusions. So this makes “being red pill” completely irrelevant for your therapist. The link in my comment is a simple but effective exercise. They teach it in the military for calming yourself down during combat. There’s also an app called “State” that you can use for breathing exercises. It’s made by ppl who have an “Art of Breath” course for learning about breathing practices and their use in performance applications.

Meditation and breathing exercises will help you develop the ability to regulate your arousal levels (sympathetic signaling, “fight or flight”) on demand. I.e. it helps develop the ability to calm yourself down, whether you’re dealing with anger, anxiety or stress. Even for performance in stressful situations like combat or sports.

This is a good question. Human females have evolved to have neotenous facial features to increase attractiveness in response to sexual selection pressure for youth. So that indicates that yes, we have evolved to become more attractive in the past, and it’s entirely possible that this is ongoing. However, it’s also possible to reach a sort of Nash equilibrium in evolutionary traits. I’m not an expert on evolutionary science so I can’t definitively answer your question, but it’s an interesting one…

Variations of lifts are good for a greater variety of stimuli that can help round out any weak points. They’re especially helpful for intermediate and advanced lifters. But you are correct that progressive overload of the core movement patterns (push, pull, hinge, squat, carry) are what’s important. The valid concerns you’re bringing up are the reasons why beginner strength programs pretty much focus only on main compound lifts for full body sessions 3x a week. There’s still quite a lot you can do for your upper body without a gym. Get a pull-up bar and some gymnastic rings. See the bodyweightfitness subreddit’s wiki for a routine. I didn’t have serious acute injuries but I’ve been through 5.5 years of physical therapy for chronic postural problems—uneven muscle tension and pain that prevents me from lifting/training how I would like and drives me crazy with distraction from work. It blows my mind if you’re consistently productive and healthy like this that you’re still depressed. My experience with Vyvanse is that it’s a deal with the devil. I am greatly productive in the short term but there’s a rebound effect afterwards. I would just eat at roughly maintenance. Since you’re a beginner you will build muscle and lose fat easily. Once you have some solid beginner gains and a good gym habit then you could step it up with a modest bulk like you describe.

I’ve spent quite a monumental effort the last 5+ years resolving postural issues and chronic tension, aches and pains. I’ve sought out the very best help and the most cutting edge knowledge available on physical therapy in order to do so. Good posture is not about “keeping a straight back” or “keeping your shoulders back.” Thats a bad cue that usually causes one to flare their ribs, which is the complete opposite of what you want. That sounds like how you’re describing your typical posture now w…

The best thing to do is find providers with certifications from the organizations I mentioned. If you can find someone with all three, I can strongly recommend them. I say that PRI is priority #1 because if there are things that you can correct within their framework of rehab, it will make EVERYTHING else work much better. For core work in particular, DNS is my favorite. Their exercises are modeled off of how our core muscles are originally developed during developmental stages of infancy. Babie…

Hard to say from one photo but to me it looks like your ribs are massively flared open. Check out bodyweightfitness subreddit’s recommended program in the sidebar. There’s plenty you can do that will be challenging enough to be in the low rep strength training intensity. There are a million ways to scale up the difficulty of a push-up. Bet you can’t do a planche push up.

Man you guys should start taking BJJ or MMA classes together and learn how to go at it safely. Then he can have an outlet for his competition anxiety. But in the end you’ll probably just develop more mutual respect for one another and the issue will be resolved. Sounds like you could make great sparring partners, so long as there isn’t so much bad blood that he actually hates you and wants to hurt you, lol.

Why do you think that’s pathetic? It’s only pathetic if you do it strictly to pick up girls, are thirsty about it, and don’t actually enjoy the activity. Pick an activity that you enjoy, and would enjoy meeting other people who also like that activity to make friends with. Nothing pathetic about that. It could even be MMA with all dudes. You’ll make friends, be introduced to their friends, their gfs and their friends, etc. That’s social circle game.

I’m a former heroin addict as well. Good work staying clean. I’ve been off H/benzos for nearly 7 years but I’ve spent a lot of that time still struggling with my addiction with various other things (weed, party drugs, video games, etc.). I basically went from hell to purgatory. I recommend you stay the course and remain sober. It’s a big accomplishment, and your sobriety is much more important than banging some party sloots. Addiction is addiction. It’s a behavioral pattern. Whatever it is you’re addicted to doesn’t matter as much when you’re trying to recover from addiction. It’s all very similar. You can cut out one thing, but your addictive behaviors can still rage with a new object of addiction. So, you really need to get at the heart of the issue and cut them all out. I know it’s tough, I’ve been there. For a long time. Your addictions are your refuge; what you use to make yourself feel better when you feel bad…

Depends more on the specific people than how old they are. Similarity in schedules and values are most important imo. E.g. Yes. You experience an emotion/craving for something (cigarette, alcohol, fatty food, etc.) and your prefrontal cortex inhibits this craving in order to make decisions better suited for long-term goals (lose weight, stay healthy, etc.) This is called “executive function” and it can be practiced and strengthened via focused meditation.
/r/askTRP25/06/19 09:19 PM

It trains the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which is responsible for rational decision making, long-term planning, sustaining focused attention, and inhibiting/attenuating signals from other parts of the brain, including those involved in anxiety and the fight-or-flight response. It’s like going to the gym for your brain.

This advice is commonly trotted out here but I don’t trust it. If you’re dealing with a chick with considerably lower SMV than yours then it seems like it could seriously backfire. Also consider women’s duel strategy, AF/BB. Sure, beta behavior might start to erode her sexual attraction, but it could bolster her desire to lock you down as beta bucks.

As a novice you can build strength and muscle while losing fat. Keep the intensity high, strength training as normal pretty much. You might just drop the volume a bit. Calculate TDEE. Track your calories. Aim for ~500 cal deficit and 0.8-1 grams of protein per lb (or calculate protein by your goal weight if you have a lot to lose). I’ve lost about 20 lbs the past few months and I’ve hardly had to deal with ever feeling hungry by doing this. I’m aiming for a 700 kcal deficit with 190-200g of prot…

That's funny. After I discovered weed and a teacher introduced me to Camus around the age of 15, I really spiraled into many years of nihilism and hedonism. Perhaps re-reading him would be better after a decade and a half of perspective.

Read Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. It's his account of surviving the holocaust in Auschwitz. And if you can't tell by the title, it centers around the question you're putting forth here. If that doesn't make your first world problems seem small and inspire you to carve out some meaning for yourself, then idk what will.

Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. Viktor Frankl was a Jewish psychologist in Germany during the rise of the Nazis. This book is his account of surviving the holocaust in Auschwitz and other concentration camps. Frankl determined himself to approach his imprisonment in a professional and humanistic capacity, documenting the experience and doing what he could as a physician to help other prisoners. In the book he discusses what separated those who survived from those who passed, concludin…

Strength train 3x a work. Easy cardio, stretching or other mobility work the other 2 days. If you prefer fats, eat more fats. If you prefer carbs, eat more carbs. Just hit your required protein and fit whatever else however you want within your caloric budget.

Doesn’t have to be complicated, keep it simple. Look up a TDEE calculator and calculate your caloric needs. Aim for 0.8-1.1 grams of protein per pound, and whatever ratio of carbs:fats you prefer. I recommend Cronometer app for tracking your nutrition. Meat, eggs, fish, poultry, and veggies should be the bulk of your diet. Fatty meat is just fine if it fits your caloric budget—I personally prefer to have some tastier fattier animal proteins instead of additional carbs. A bit of fruit is good too…

Fat burning is not the same thing as fat loss. You also have to account for fat storage. Fat loss happens when there is a net negative of fat storage and fat burning, which happens in a caloric deficit. You’re not gonna magically lose fat on a ketogenic diet in the absence of a caloric deficit.
/r/askTRP01/04/19 07:41 PM

lmao this is just false. It promotes increased fat oxidation (“burning”) but that doesn’t mean a net fat loss.

What I mean is that if you want to compare them to some people with physiques built from lifting weights, how do you know that the weight lifters aren’t using steroids either? You don’t, so if you’re include steroids in your consideration it makes a casual comparison between lifting/calisthenics very difficult to make. Regardless, anyone who uses steroids will tell you that it still takes a ton of work in the gym if you want to build a really impressive physique.

Who are you there with? Try and focus on having a good time with your friends. Perhaps put less pressure on yourself to “perform” and game. Try to be less focused on expectations, and more focused on the present moment.

You can take lessons at a yacht or sailing club. And you can rent boats. As a friend once told me, "if it floats, flies, or fucks—rent instead of own." I taught sailing on 14' Lidos, which can comfortably hold up to 6 people. Obviously you can go bigger or smaller, too.

Plus being on a small boat when the wind hits it really fucking tilts over and gets exciting and you gotta maintain control, it's not like you're just leisurely floating around. Plus it's something that you can invite people out to join in on. I'll look forward to trying it again as an adult and meeting people in the process.

“The Power of Habit” is a good book that explains how our habits (cue, routine, reward) are driven by the subconscious. I can’t remember but “The Mind Illuminated” (a thorough how-to manual on meditation) might have some info as well. Basically you influence your subconscious through action and repetition. I haven’t read it yet, but “Thinking Fast and Slow” is on my list and I’m pretty sure it has a lot to do with the subconscious.

Read “Man’s Search For Meaning” by Victor Frankl. That, along with 12 Rules For Life by JBP and Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins have helped me a lot. But it seems like the main thing bothering you is existential angst, which is directly addressed in quite potent form by Frankl’s book.

First of all, you’re killing it bro. Keep at it. The way psychotherapists have their clients work through anxiety is with “exposure therapy.” Look it up. They start with a tolerable but stimulating dose of whatever provokes the anxiety, and progressively overload it with time. Just like with PT/lifting. So you can start small, with a goal of asking a girl for the time/directions/etc. Repeat for reps. Over time, ramp up the intensity. Start flirting, ask for numbers. Etc. You’ll get the hang of i…

I’ve been dealing with chronic neck issues for a while now. So you have my condolences, I know it’s really shitty. Your nervous system is freaking out, locking up your neck and sending pain signals to make sure you keep it safe. You need to give it some rest and let it calm down. Then reintroduce controlled movement as tolerated. You might be best taking off from work early and getting some rest. A hot shower, warm compress, and getting to bed early would do you well. If you’re a beginner then full body routines are optimal for developing initial strength because you get higher frequency for each muscle group (each group is hit 3x a week vs 2x a week in a 2 or 3 day split). When you crunch the numbers, this results in a much larger volume of work for each muscle group over an entire year. Progressive overload is the most important variable for developing strength and size. For a natural lifter, frequency is perhaps the next most important variable. Eventually…

Probably better off with an existing program written by someone more knowledgeable than you. I’m not a fan of 3 day split (like PPL) because you HAVE to be in the gym 6 days week. There isn’t any wiggle room to take a day off here or there, or progress will stall. Lots of people like it though.
/r/askTRP30/01/19 11:01 PM
2

You want to hit each group every 48-72 hrs for optimal growth. Full body, 2-day, and 3-day splits all work. Full body is optimal for beginners due to increased frequency for each muscle group, but can be harder to recover from as you advance.

Well no, it’s definitely not a “more extreme version” of bipolar. They’re pretty different. They just both have some confusing similarities. AFAIK a negative mood swing in bipolar tends to be a very deeply, inward-focused pit of despair. While a negative mood swing in BPD is a caustic, outwardly projected feeling. There’s a poor sense of self, so moods are derived from external input (other people). If that input is negative then they can fly off the fucking handle. Bipolar is also extremely tre…

I agree 100%. My interpretation of TRP is as a framework for attraction, with no moral judgement on what you do with that information. JBP touches on concepts within that framework for attraction, but also provides some moral judgement in suggesting that you might find life a little more meaningful and endurable for the long-term when you raise children.
/r/TheRedPill11/12/18 11:57 PM

I don’t think so. JBP is pro-natalist, with a stated goal of promoting what’s best for raising children: a stable two-parent household. And his relationship with his him wife demonstrates his belief in what he teaches. So that opposes the “slay thots, never marry” philosophy that many hold on TRP.

Sure, I've seen some stable successful put-together people that use various drugs, but they're most definitely a small minority. There's even a large number of users who outwardly seem fairly solid. Good therapy is about navigating and understanding your internal world. Your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experience. E.g. “what’s upsetting you? Why? How did that start?” Etc. Neurofeedback therapy will make a huge impact. But a good course of it will be pretty costly ($2-3k or more). Still I definitely think it’s worth it, and you’ll start to see the benefits after just a few sessions. It’s like meditation on steroids. It’s one of the rawest forms of “self improvement” that you can invest in imo.

Whatever appeals to you the most. Swim & water polo would probably go together btw. And if you run track they’ll want you to do cross country. I don’t recall if swim & track share the same season. If they do you could try out for both and see which one vibes with you better. I personally enjoy both running and swimming so I would be hard pressed to choose as well.

Wtf, where did you play volleyball? That’s one of the hardest sports for newcomers imo, out of everything else I played growing up (soccer, basketball, baseball). Unless you’re really athletically gifted with height, a big jump and good coordination to make you a strong hitter. Then you can be subbed out for defense. Setting and passing really well is hard af.

First of all, I’m not a doctor. But I believe CPTSD (which does fall in line with her explanation) can sometimes bear some resemblance to BPD, but with a lot less wrath, fury, and destruction. Still a red flag, but there could be some distinction here that you can look into if you want.

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) is the red pill of mobility and training for joint function/health. What “stretching” is supposed to address. Embraced by Westside Barbell and numerous professional sports teams. You have to assess what you specifically need to address. Your mobility routine will be highly individual. But if you do some research on FRC you can start learning. I think Onnit has some decent collaboration videos.

I don’t think he contradicts TRP at all. He’s just pro-natalist, meaning that he advocates for what is best for raising healthy well-adjusted children. And that means a stable 2-parent home. And he cautions that promiscuity can threaten the stability of future pair bonding. So that’s where some TRPers take issue with him, because their attitude is to “enjoy the decline.” But TRP is amoral, it does not make a value judgement for or against pro-natalism or enjoying the decline. It’s just a framewo…

In my experience with therapy, RP is pretty much irrelevant. A therapist is supposed to conceal any bias they may have. There generally isn’t any advice given. Rather, they’re supposed to help guide you through careful self-analysis of your own internal experience, both conscious and subconscious, so that you have a better understanding of what’s going on and are better equipped to solve your issues. But anyways, I looked for an older male psychologist and that worked well for me.

I agree. I think he's speaking at such a level of abstraction that it's making people miss the forest for the trees. So much of what is taught by TRP has to do with moving up in the hierarchy of men. What makes one a part of the 20% is how they compare to other men. And there ar…

Therapy can be helpful for this. You and a therapist can work together as a team to trigger this type of emotional reaction, and carefully inspect everything you can about it. E.g. early physical warning signs of a shift in sympathetic/parasympathetic state (fight or flight), or careful inspection of the thought processes (potentially unconscious) that drive this reaction. The more you come to understand it, and the more practice you put in controlling it in the safe controlled venue of a therap…

You shouldn’t just breathe into your belly but in a 360 degree fashion into your sides, lower back, and belly. Breathe in through your nose. I’m of the opinion that the bodyweightfitness subreddit’s recommended routine is the best program for true beginners, because it has some mobility work/warmup and core work (body line drills) specified in the routine that would be very beneficial for a sedentary person wanting to start exercising.

Do you have any clue how hard it is for most people to arrive at that conclusion? I don't say this often, but you have my absolute respect. Yeah man, it took a lot of digging with the therapist, along with reading and introspection. Out of curiosity, male or female? I almost never recommend a female therapist. It was a male therapist, and that was a parameter that I searched for one by. I guess if someone has mommy issues they might be well served by a female therapist. I have had a great relati…

I also used cannabis daily and MDMA and LSD plenty, and struggled to get sober and deal with depression and anxiety. I don’t think the drugs caused the issues, they just allowed me to suppress and ignore them, exacerbating them in the process. I didn’t learn the tools to healthfully cope, and so when I tried to get sober they came to full bear. Seeing a good therapist has been very helpful, but it took a few tries to find the right one. Personally I don’t want to take antidepressants, but some p…

Just break it up into the smallest pieces possible (e.g. study for 2 hours today), let yourself feel good about achieving that small goal, and start building momentum. Oh, and h…

Yeah based on your symptoms I could tell you had a neglectful mother. The book I mentioned describes all the different subtypes of CPTSD, and their different styles of coping/behaviors. He mostly focuses on what's called "intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy" where he almost basically tries to trigger me so that we can take an extremely close look at the emotions (starting with bodily sensations) that rise up as we talk about whatever it is. Try slowly stepping over hurdles for an additional stabilization challenge. Do this for a little while and it's crazy how stable you feel moving with heavy loads. I'm also a fan of suitcase carries and uneven carries. If you have some postural issues with hypertonic and painful upper traps, try doing a farmer carry with 2.5 gallon water jugs. The instability of the water sloshing around (and the plastic jug flexing) does a wonder for calming down your traps.

If you’re relatively new then it’ll be easy to make gains in both simultaneously. As you advance it’ll be difficult to really push hard in both at the same time, but you can cycle your main focus every 3-4 or even 6 months. Don't worry too much about your problems with school. Seek out your school's counseling services, and then afterwards you can probably speak with your professors and figure out a way to rectify things. Therapy would be a good idea, but you might not immediately find a therapist that you "click" with. Keep on searching and trying. It might be a good idea to look outside of your school's services if possible. I would recommend an older male. Your home environment sounds toxic and I would recommend…

I would posit that our happiness is largely a function of our social rank. Being valued and accepted by others, and regularly experiencing social interactions that demonstrate this. It doesn't sound like you have this in place, so what you're experiencing is normal. Accept yourself, you're not defective. Set yourself up for success by seeking out social dynamics where you can contribute value. Volunteer. You're automatically put in a position where all you have to do is show up and help out, and…

A million times this. I suffer from the same problem. My father was (still is) stressed out as fuck, has an explosive temper, and has a very bitter and tense disposition. Most of the retards on here talking shit about BWF have no idea what they're talking about. You can get plenty jacked with BWF. It's just not quite as time-efficient. Chronic daily cannabis usage will cause ADHD-like symptoms (distractibility, reward-seeking) and increase baseline social anxiety, negatively affecting your sociability. You can still get fuckin jacked with calisthenics, although it's not strictly as efficient as weightlifting. And I still recommend doing barbell squats and deadlifts. Trainers can be really fucking good, but also really bad. There's a wide spectrum. The answer to your question is: it depends. I wouldn't bother with valsalva on high rep isolation stuff. It can also be counter-productive if you have any postural issues to correct. I still do it on high rep deadlifts or squats though. And it is really useful for high intensity work. Especially unstable high intensity (like weighted ring pushups).

I think you replied to the wrong comment, so I'm not sure who this is directed towards. I agree in defining ego as your "sense of self" and what you are describing is a healthy, congruent ego. Ego becomes pathological when it is not grounded in reality—e.g., "I am the supreme gentleman." This becomes extremely frustrating and anxiety-inducing because there's a mismatch between how you view yourself and reality. Ego does not equate with confidence. This is a common misconception. Anxiety coupled with narcissism is a terrible affliction. All women's romance novels feature the female lead taming the formerly untamable bad boy male, turning him from beast to lover. Do you have any recommendations for improving the experience?

Yes, this is called "complex PTSD." You suffered recurring interpersonal trauma. It sensitizes your sympathetic nervous system and makes you more prone to the fight, flight, or freeze response to stress. During a stressful situation your body diverts resources from the more advanced parts of your brain responsible for critical thinking towards these survival mechanisms. That's the "brain fog" you experience. I suffer the same thing from my father's anger and his beating me with a leather belt in…

TRP provides a framework for how sexual attraction works. It doesn't mean that you can't have compassion. They're not mutually exclusive. A lot of vitriol gets spewed on TRP because it attracts men who have been hurt. Learn to separate the signal from the noise.

This is a really tough situation. My youngest brother is pretty severely depressed, anxious, and ADHD. He's 25 and hasn't really done much. I just try to offer him any support I can, without judgement. Chiding him at all will only produce more anxiety and he'll just shrink back in response. I know he's in pain. It's really tough. I recently figured out in therapy that I've suffered from unresolved childhood trauma my whole life, and didn't even realize that was the source of ALL my problems. But it does get better with the right therapy. I also strongly suggest neurofeedback and meditation.

Look into neurofeedback. It's helping me with my anxiety and depression. Check out this episode of Joe Rogan with Dr. Andrew Hill. Dr. Hill is a neuroscientist who has co-founded a neurofeedback training center in LA. It provides some excellent insight into what neurofeedback is and how it works. It's like precise, accelerated meditation. And of course, I also recommend developing a strong meditation practice.

The psychiatrist that I'm currently seeing for psychotherapy has helped me immensely. The experience has been pretty fucking crazy, tbh. Crunches are not a good exercise for postural correction. You're strengthening and patterning your core for thoracic flexion, which is usually the opposite of what you need. Planks with thoracic extension are good. These are slightly different from some examples of "hollow body" planks that you might see, which do provide more stability for bodyweight strength training or gymnastics purposes. An avoidant coping mechanism is something you do to distract yourself from a stressor. Drugs, alcohol, sex, social media, procrastination, binge eating, the list goes on. Stretching is important and helpful, but it will do jack shit on its own. You need to inhibit any hypertonic shortened muscles (via stretching, foam rolling, manual therapy) followed immediately by strengthening that muscle in the increased ROM. What's especially tricky in left-to-right imbalances is the role of muscle chains that spiral around your body for stabilizing and generating force in the transverse plane of motion (rotational force). This plane of motion is especially relevant in many …

Burnout happens from cumulative stress. You need to be wary of the early symptoms, and preemptively stop it from becoming a bigger problem. Note what you've accomplished so far, be happy for yourself, and take a break. Just like with lifting, you need to allow for some recovery. Periodize. As these new efforts become ingrained habits over time, your work capacity will increase. Don't be afraid to start out small (1 new habit at a time) and leave plenty of room for steady advancement over time.

It comes down to biology. Sex is high risk for the female, and low risk for the male. Before modern medicine, pregnancy was highly dangerous. And once the baby is born, there's another mouth to feed. There's a lot at stake. That is why women are the gatekeepers of sex. If a woman is not discerning of her sexual partners, it communicates low value. You also have the fact that the male cannot be 100% certain the offspring is his. But he wants to be as sure as he reasonably can before he provides h…

Look up sliding side lunges. Good eccentric exercise for your adductors. Helps them become comfortable with lengthening under load.

I do a two-day split: Day 1: push and pull. Pull ups, dips, rows, push-ups. Supersetted in opposing pairs. Day 2: legs and shoulders. Alternate between deadlifts, squats, and single leg work. 2 core exercises every workout. I never isolate arms, and they're plenty sizeable. Your priorities are out of wack imo if you're isolating arms and not doing any push or pull. And if you do isolate arms, that should be at the end of your workout.

I'm big into the underground house music scene. Picked up DJing this past year, too. I love that music. But I'm having a bit of a crisis. I need to get sober. I look around at all my friends, and many of them are simply turning into full-blown drug addicts. I love them to death, but they're not a good influence. Not sure where to go from here.

Once your performance starts to actually degrade, that is over reaching. If you're intermediate or advanced, this is might be desired. You'll do a deload at this point, and then come out stronger. Over training is when you continue through the over reaching, and your performance continues to degrade. Over-reach followed by recovery is good. But over training and not allowing for recovery will have negative impact.

Overeating is a proper disorder of addiction, and you ought to seek help from a mental health professional. I'm about 5 years clean from heroin but binging on food is still a very real problem for me. You can also try checking out Overeaters Anonymous. Hopefully you would be able to meet people who have overcome this problem, for a source of inspiration and guidance.

Strong eye contact, body language, kino, and novel ways to communicate (e.g. gestures, writing on a notepad, typing out on a phone, etc). I think this could actually be played strongly in your favor, as long as you're confident enough. Novel communication is fun.

something magical about dumbbells and barbells? Just that it's easier to progressively load. Oh and barbell squats and deadlifts. I generally prefer bodyweight movements as well. More fun and interesting. Feels good for my posture, too.

This. They are foundational, functional movements. You don't have to go crazy with the weight but you should definitely do them to maintain healthy movement function.

TRP is not a moral position. It is a framework for describing and explaining sexual dynamics. I agree that the whiney anger phase bitching about women can be tiresome, though.

There was a barista at the Starbucks I always went to that I ended hooking up with for a bit. She was always very flirty with me, jokingly giving me shit about my drink, etc. One day I just asked if she wanted to hang out that weekend. She was also 18 and our SMV ratio was in my favor. I think the takeaway here is to just read the body language and social cues from your interactions, and escalate accordingly. I think if you can do this effectively you can game them in a way that's low pressure f…

Thanks for the kind words. Mastery over oneself, cultivating discipline, and self-improvement are what I enjoy most about TRP. I've certainly learned a lot over the years. I had a good experience with suboxone therapy. It really can be life changing. I was able to continue working full-time while getting sober because of it. Intensive outpatient group rehab was helpful as well. I never cared too much for NA/AA, but I don't knock it. It was just a little too much like church for my taste. It's co…

Wtf, why is this a problem. Own that shit. Let it be known. If you're a white dude, you're in luck. Asian girls love their white men. Live it up. Your friends are just busting your balls. Respond with amused mastery, agree and amplify, etc. This is what friends do to have fun with one another. It also sharpens you for other social interactions, including gaming chicks. This is a good thing.

Being a little over 5 years clean from heroin, I'm curious about your business. Is it just regular rehab services, in an under-served market? Or is there something special that differentiates it? Can you speak to that? Thank you for the post, and congratulations on the hard work. I hope things go well.

Rest Ice Compression Elevation (RICE) Definitely go on hiatus with the lifting. Do not lift through pain. Consider seeing a doctor. Ideally, a physical therapist. Regular doctors don't know too much about this stuff. Wading or low intensity swimming in a pool could be helpful. You probably ought to clear that with a doctor, though. You can't really assess injuries over the internet like this.

I don't know much about sales, just that you can make a lot of money and that those specializations can play off of your experience as a developer. You could also try looking into consulting. Perhaps having increased ownership and autonomy would be more invigorating. And you can pick and choose projects that interest you. Whatever you do, your first priority should be to stack up as much money as you can so that you can afford to take some risk in changing things. That's what I'm trying to focus…

But it would take ~7 years of schooling to become a physical therapist, and it would pay substantially less than what I make as a software engineer. I think maybe at some point if I can p…

I know your question says you're not interested in self massage, but I've gotten really fucking good at massage just from working on myself a ton. I have a couple different foam rollers (one firm, one soft), lacrosse balls, this wooden massage tool, and a foam ball. From this, I've just intuitively applied it when giving massages in using my hands, knuckles, forearms, and elbows. Sometimes I will lie down…

Try out intermittent fasting. Gradually increase your fast (i.e. rather than having breakfast at your normal time, have it 1-2 hours later), until you're fasting for a good window--I like to go for anywhere from 12-16 hours. A 16 hour fast + 8 hour feeding window is pretty standard. This should help normalize hormones and whatnot, if I recall correctly. Still cut out the refined sugar, though. Have some fruit instead. I like to have a little bit of fruit with my breakfast, and immediately before…

You need to find a better physical therapist. Wrist pain and elbow tendonitis were what first brought me to physical therapy, when I was about your age. They were pretty easily fixed. Then when I was 25 I started up another stint in physical therapy, this time for chronic back pain in my upper right back. A whole slew of chronic postural issues were unraveled. 2 years and a month later and I'm still in physical therapy. But I've made consistent progress and have achieved a pretty great level of …

I'm enjoying this book at the moment. I read Meditations immediately beforehand, and there are many striking similarities in the ideas put forth. I would recommend starting with the recommended routine in /r/bodyweightfitness. I prefer it over the beginner strength programs (Starting Strength, Stronglifts, etc.) because it has good warmup and prehab routines spelled out as a part of the program. This is described in the wiki. Once you make some gains…

I like intermittent fasting. Also, you have the money, pay for a meal prep service. I get 10 meals a week from MyFitFoods (5 lunches, 5 dinners), works out to about $10 a meal. It's easier to stay on track when you have high quality meals that just need to be microwaved.

I only read the first few lines. You're thinking too much (I'm guilty of the same). Thinking about everything all at once can be overwhelming. Take consistent small steps in the right direction. I'm really enjoying reading The Power of Now. It provides guidance on how to let go of the past and future, and focus on the present moment.
