When I initially got into RP and started to practice social interactions I also asked this question a lot. Over time I for sure noticed this question seems easy to answer but it never worked. So I reworked this question and now when I want to small-talk I ask: 'tell me about one story from your day/weekend/event you've been to/etc.' Straight to the point and everyone I asked this (not kidding) in the end answers with a nice story of some kind (not counting initial shock worded as 'but what do you want to know?' or 'nothing happened'.

This bring me to a point that when you hear question like that in my opinion (if you feel like) you do not need to directly answer the question. 'How's life?' is not specific so most people answer 'good.' and that's all. Look at the intention of the speaker which is they want to hear about your life. Then tell them random story you seem interesting.

I do not see a reason why would you curse over such a simple question. You can't handle 'akwardness'?
