So I walk into a room for an event brimming with confidence and see two people to the side not talking. I go approach them and talk to them and they seem very quiet and nervous. But the thing is, I felt like I was the one being evaluated by them despite what seemed to be our drastically different confidence levels. It was fucking weird. They were nervous. No eye contact, looking down, flushed cheeks etc. One was a guy and the other was a girl. Yet, both somehow held this sort of weird frame. Maybe I was just seeing things? But I honestly don't think so. They could have been just so socially awkward that this created their own frame to exist in. I introduced myself then asked the guy about himself. And then he just stares at me for 5-10s then asks me to elaborate and doesn't answer what I ask him. Totally cool, convos are dynamic. It was just a strange feeling. It It reminds me of a few other convos I had with other people (mostly asians) who seem to have that same level of reaction and speed of response to things. Like he didn't function in the same reality. Maybe just so socially awkward that he's in his own reality through. The same guy walked out half-way into a game we were playing without even saying shit. Weird dude but it's like that was a confidence in and of itself. The girl was also shy, but she had her own weird shy frame. Where it's like even though I was calm, I was able to project my voice and have good non-verbals, and was initiating and being present. This didn't do much outside of getting to know them and chill with them. Whenever I say something and no one responds, something I think I need to work on not using something to ease tension "like.. " "or basically" "so like" "pretty much". Like the fact that there's no response is making feel awkward so I compensate for it.
