I watched it and I got furious. I have been in similar situations (albeit not life or death) and encountered the exact same behaviour.

Just as a bit of background (this is not a pity party, just to explain), I have severe depression and practically zero self esteem. I have had this for the past 11 years and it drove me to drinking heavily about 6 years ago. I am finally starting to get a handle on it now. In this time, I have gone to various psychologists and psychiatrists.

One common thing I noticed was that the female councelors would pull that EXACT same mind game with me and the guys never would. They would ask me stupid questions repeatedly (I once got asked over and over again if I consumed child pornography which I honestly found highly insulting) and when I would get agitated they would pull the "If you don't calm down, I can't help you" card.

When I explained that I self harmed and had low self esteem, they would also just say "yeah" and "mmhm" in a very similar fashion as the lady in that video did. They would imply that they didn't believe me and imply those are actually "womens issues".

One time I remember a lady using self harm in teenage girls as an example of how people don't tend to look for help. I had not talked about self harm with this lady yet and I didn't during that meeting because I was young and stupid.

I eventually did mention it and got that exact same disinterested "mmhm" as an answer. Didn't you say that self harm was a serious issue just a few meetings ago???

The guys on the other hand would often ask to see where I had cut myself and ask further questions about why I had low self esteem.

The worst a guy did was tell me he could not help me if I continued to drink. I didn't go to meetings drunk, but I was drinking heavily every day during that time. I wouldnt drink until after meetings. But honestly, at least he was forward and didn't play mind games with me.

The women would also ask questions in a manner that implied that I was lying about my answers. Why would I lie about my situation to somebody I am trying to get help from? I ran into this A LOT.

Am I fucking crazy, or is this kind of behaviour wide spread with women? Is there a name for this kind of attitude?
