Trades are brutal. Pussies don't enter trades. If it's valid criticism wrapped in insults man up and accept it and do better. Don't talk a big game and suck dick. Do shit and show them. Expect to he called dip shit and other stuff when you fuck up. Old dogs don't wanna train some young fuck how to do shit they already know they are on the clock and wanna get done.

If it isn't a valid insult or criticism laugh it off and say good one or fire back with amused mastery. T runs high in trades it's to establish social dominance and pecking order. I'd know I used to be in a union for road repair.

Today's my 5th day as a welding apprentice/helper. I get shit on when I fuck up or make a mistake. What do I do? I accept that I fucked up and try my best not to do it again. The embarrassment that comes with it should be cut off, isolate it. Do the same with the feelings of inferiority.

Just picture those emotions, feel them, see them, and acknowledge them. Once you do that, place them into a small box and shut the lid, then push it to the side. Those feelings aren't useful or productive in any way to me, so they are discarded like the mental trash they are.

They're shit testing you.

Three reasons....

One, you're the FNG (fucking new guy), so there is a hierarchy and you're at the bottom. You will fuck up. Listen and learn. Thank them for their lessons.

Two, most of these guys work all day, come home, have a beer, watch sports. You're the entertainment. Can someday start giving some back. But not yet. You have to earn some respect before you're "one of the guys".

Third, and most importantly, You could KILL them. So they're testing you. All high stress / danger careers have this. If you lose your shit and go cry in a corner or go full retard because your little feeling get hurt when they tease you about how loose your mom's pussy is, chances are you won't be able to keep it together if one of them gets a high voltage smackdown and is lying on the floor not breathing.

Now, the overriding concept you need is to not give a fuck about what they're saying. The only way someone can disrespect you is if you place their opinion higher than your own. Put your head down, learn. There will be retards in every job.. take what you need from them and don't otherwise engage.

Electrical apprentice here too - I’m in my fourth year. You need to learn to deal with shit and laugh it off and even joke around be sarcastic with these guys or you will be labeled a huge pussy. Show up on time every morning , ten minutes early. Don’t ever complain about being tired , hungry , or your task at hand. There is no room for calling out sick , or carelessness for safety. You need to have a very strong frame for the job. Example : I had an electrolyte imbalance at work a few weeks ago , had to leave the job site to go to the emergency department and my heart started going bonkers in the emergency room. I was medically cleared two days later and we were joking about my “ heart attack “ at lunch. Where else are you gonna find that kind of tough love? It’s a mans job and will definitely make a man out of you.
