TL;DR at the bottom.
I'm an 18 year old student from Germany. I still live with two of my family members. Germany is currently the country with the fifth-most cases of Covid-19 and we are still in the expanding phase of the pandemic, despite being told otherwise by the media (yesterday there were 3400 new confirmed cases, twice as much as the day before yesterday. New cases are submitted via telefax and those weren't really active Friday to Tuesday due to Easter holidays).
My school has been closed for five weeks now. Being what you Americans would call a "straight A student" I didn't have much problems with learning from home (no teacher really gave a shit about us, but that's besides the point).
Two days ago, our state governors had a meeting to discuss further measures. The entire nation, teachers and students included, were sure that they would keep schools closed. They didn't. School's reopening, at least for students in their final year, on April 27th in my state. Others start on April 20th already.
Both of my family members are part of the "high-risk group" due to high age (one of the two persons in my household is 80+ years old) or chronic ilness (the other is 50+ and has severe asthma). I'm not afraid to catch the virus for myseld as it'll likely have little consequences for me. But let's face it, if I get it, I'll infect my family members, and if they get it from me, well, statistics says they die.
All independent scientists have voiced their concerns, even high-ranking ones, even the ones paid by the fucking government. Yet no one listens to them. Our politicians just kinda do their thing, effectively giving the death sentence to very possibly tens of thousands of innocent people, and the people just sit there, silently, and watch (I'm getting weird 1933 vibes from this...)
I'm being forced into making an impossible decision: Do I keep my family safe, but throw years of success at school away (by not taking the final exams) and become a janitor or McDonald's wageslave? Or do I go to school, potentially risking to effectively kill what's left of my family?
I don't know if I can get myself to throw my life away like in choice one, but I can impossibly take the responsibility implied in choice two. So tell me: What the fuck am I supposed to do?
TL;DR: Germany, despite having growing numbers of Covid-19-infected, wants to force me back into school, endangering the lives of my family members who are old and chronically ill. What should I do?
