I've been long touting the benefits of some stuff I've been taking. Nootropics are welcome, as any other substance that can help ongoing physical, mental, and emotional improvements.
I'm not looking for shortcuts. I'm looking for ways to push myself further, and you should be too. That's why I'll start.
Things I'm using (in no particular order):
1) Epsom Salt as a magnesium supplement. I feel noticeably calmer, and my muscles feel much better if I do it post workout, which I recommend (always buy in bulk. Use in bathes, absorbs better and doesn't give you diarrhea https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071G3GYQP - typically will last you for months at $28 a pop)
2) Ashwagandha - any extract really. Can get those off iHerb. Helps my focus and libido, and is dirt cheap. I enjoy the effects a lot and will be using this herb probably indefinitely.
3) Whey/Creatine - a given, just so nobody mentions it. I try to go for low carb isolates (California Gold Nutrition has an excellent one.)
4) Omega-3 - basic stuff. Helps with joints a ton, research points to it helping protein absorption from food, and your brain is basically made from it. Buy in bulk, iHerb/Amz, I get "Ultra Omega-3, Now", one of the cheaper but effective options.
5) Vit-D - no functional defects, but Vit-D deficiency is a bitch and you do not want it. Google it, the research speaks for itself. These you can buy locally, costs dick. (figuratively)
6) Curcumin Extract - Experimenting with this, feel like my bowel movements are a bit sturdier. Not sure if that's a good thing, but it's doing something. Make sure to get some with black pepper as a study on humans showed a 2000% increase in uptake by the body when taken with piperine which is in black pepper. Got mine from iHerb.
7) 5-HTP - raises serotonin levels in the brain to make you a little more cheerful, not unlike SSRI medications, with the difference being that SSRIs do it artificially and 5-HTP is simply the precursor to the serotonin. Feeling better, even 5% better is a major advantage in every day life - how well off would you be if you had 5% more fun in every thing that you did? (Some people report no effect from this one. I'm undecided as of now, but if it doesn't help consider yourself maxed out on that sweet, sweet serotonin.) iHerb/Amazon carries these too.
That's mostly it. I take some other stuff but I don't know if they work yet so won't mention them. Mostly, how I check a supplement is pause use of all other supps and use said supp exclusively for two weeks. It takes patience, but that's how I know something actually works and isn't being piled on by other stuff.
What do you take to enhance your self actualization process?
