A question on hypergamy; call it a lack of understanding on my part.

We're all aware of AWALT and the tendency of women to trade up; by my understanding it happens primarily through branch-swinging.

We're also familiar with 'once-a-cheater, always-a-cheater'; that being the wisdom that 'if she cheats with you, she'll cheat on you.'

Now, as an alpha you are deliberately triggering hypergamic tendencies all the time.

So my question:

In the case you've deliberately induced hypergamy in someone (aka forced a branch swing, or mate poached somebody); Are they (by virtue of your 'success') therefore 'bad' and someone that you shouldn't take seriously? Are you effectively shooting yourself in the foot by doing this?

How does this dovetail with 'she was never yours, it was just your turn' or its correlated lesson: she's only yours as long as you can make her think she won't get a better deal elsewhere?
