36 yr old opinion here-

Asking for number shows you have some balls and sets the stage for you to establish man/woman interaction.

Asking for IG puts you in a potential queue.

Neither of these matter if her interest level is high enough but I would say the number is more direct.

Asking for a number will never be outdated. Also you have to take in to account that your sister is only 18. She also lacks any dating experience. Btw I am in my early 20s.

How is asking for a number outdated? Why do you care about what photos somebody is posting. Get the number, create a plan to meet up, invite her to it. If she's interested she'll meet you on top of the Himalayas in the middle of the night. It's not about the actual date, it's about you. Does she want YOU!? When a woman is interested in you, she will fo whatever, as long as you two get to hangout.
