I'm finding that I'm running into trouble with, the best I can describe it, is killer instinct. It's not approach anxiety; I'm more than willing to approach and talk, dance, drink, have conversation, even if I'm out of my element I engage people. I'm still working on getting the most out of that.
Last night is a case in point on my predicament: I'm out with some friends, hitting up the dance floor, and things are going well enough. Holding eye contact, getting flirty and kino is going relatively well, but it seems I can't get past grinding for a song or two. Granted, I'm not a very good dancer, but I'm not stiff and I'm not completely inexperienced, and letting a girl gyrate on you isn't all that difficult. It's not like it ends badly either, I don't get slapped, told to go fuck myself or a drink thrown on me. Still smiling and everything, but it's just like she's saying "okay, I'm done, I'm going to go back to doing my thing for a while" but it never gets past this point.
I've tried escalating kino in subsequent times(perhaps too timidly?) getting more vocally flirty, and trying to isolate after a while but no dice. Am I picking them poorly? Do I just need to pull harder or push harder than I'm doing? I've noticed my willingness to walk away is much higher and is generally met positively later in the night but it's nowhere near working quickly enough to actually get closes.
