obviously the best way to learn a language is to live in the country that speaks it.

My friend who is 26, went to France for a job. He had no prior knowledge of french. But in just 1 and 1/2 years of living there, he became fluent.

Of course you don't have this luxury. So I think the best resource is to immerse and surround yourself in that language as much as possible. I took 4 years of spanish in high school also, and i've completely forgot everything. I'm currently relearning it now. I'm taking community college classes. I'm watching TV shows in spanish. I'm watching movies in spanish. I'm reading books in spanish. I don't really have anyone to practice spanish with outside, so whenever i come home, i even sing songs in Spanish.

There are endless resources available on the web. Many are free if somewhat limited, but will at least give you an introduction. When it comes down to it though, the only way you're really going to learn a new language is by speaking it and hearing it spoken by native speakers. Once you decide on a language, learn the basics and then seek out people who actually speak the language and talk to them. The majority of the time, they'll be more than happy to help you out

It's a great way to make new friends and even meet women. Make sure to learn some of the culture and customs too, though. Some cultures really don't take kindly to 'foreigners ' trying to steal their women. It's still possible, but it's best to have an idea of what the rules are before you go blazing in. As a general guideline, it's always best to befriend the elders first
