First things first, let me preface this post with a few bullets of information:
~I came here to this sub instead of, say, /r/fitness because I trust the users here to be able to give helpful in-depth information about lifting and working out and self-improvement since lifting is a pillar of TRP.
~I've already dabbled with a bit of research and have been trying to read online about lifting for aesthetics and etc, but I don't understand some terminology (such as, but not limited to: "deadlifts" , a "5x5", etc) and I think I need a more personal answer. I'm really just looking to talk to another human who is knowledgeable on the subject.
~ I am concerned with the amount of BS answers in a few other threads with people genuinely looking for answers. I'm serious about turning a new leaf and reaping the benefits so, just as I am genuine, I would appreciate genuine answers back.
~I am 16 years old
Hello, like I said above I'm 16 and just looking for some lifting advice, I'm determined to start ASAP and I have a few questions. To set the scene, I'm 5'9, 141 lbs and a complete rookie when it comes to hitting the gym. However, I'm big on running so I'm in pretty good shape from an athletic standpoint, just not an aesthetic. I'm skinny and have pretty long arms. My priority and first focus is to get bigger arms. So, my first question is, can i just start doing curls and see results? Do I need to bulk up first? I have skinny arms and especially thin forearms. I'm insecure about my arms and I don't like it. I tried "bulking up" but i felt like I saw the weight gain around my stomach and not really anywhere else. I wanted my arms to get bigger. Another question I have is, if i do curls and lift weights, will that just make my biceps/triceps bigger? How can I improve my forearms as well? Are there different workouts for those? Also, what kind of training do you all recommend for someone trying to bulk up their arms? What kinds of things do I need to do? What kind of equipment do I need? I have 5 and 10 pound weights here at home as well as a "total gym". However I do have access to my schools gym with a wide array of equipment, but the guys who work out there all know what they're doing and I'd be embarrassed to go without prior knowledge. The machines..or apparatuses I suppose are intimidating. Also, what kind of form do I need for certain exercises to maximize my workout? I'm really motivated to turn a new page here, so I'd love to hear to hear some, perhaps fatherly, advice. Thanks so much.
