Hey, I needed some advice about a situation I was recently in. I’m in high school btw.

Long story short I asked a girl to dance and got rejected (I know it’s pretty trivial just keep reading) I was pretty annoyed about it for a few hours but eventually I got over it. However, there are these kids in one of my classes and they keep teasing me about it and she is sitting not far from them. (She has heard them a few times) How do I respond (or should I) when they make fun of me about it, I’m pretty sure it’s making other people think I get made fun of and am weak when they’re the only people who do it. (Again I know it’s pretty trivial but it’s been in my mind a lot lately.)

Also another question, I would like to understand why I got rejected. I’m not white if anyone wants to know but I don’t like using race as a scapegoat, so I tend not to think about that. I’m not exactly popular but I’m not bullied or anything either, I’ve got my own group of friends and I chill and keep good grades. What I was thinking was a lack of confidence when asking her, I was really nervous when asking her to dance and this is why I think I got rejected. I’m not currently in shape but that rejection spurred me into working out and working on myself. I don’t know too much about this high school dynamic and I figured people who have been through this could give some advice, thanks

Note: I also saw something in the sidebar about being assertive, and I’m not that at the moment, though I am working on it. Don’t know if this played a factor as well as she did see one situation (though it was very small) where I wasn’t very assertive
