In the end we're all alone, as much as we like to think there's some sort of connection between us and others most of it is just our separate imaginations distorting reality into something it's not. Most of your friends don't see their friendship with you in the same way you see it, that just goes to show that it's not something tangible.

That being said it's entirely possible to build relationships with people who value trust, respect and reciprocity, but those people are quite rare and you'll have to show yourself worthy and search for them. And remember that nobody's perfect and when trying to find good friends, the better is the enemy of the good.
