Had this happen before. I would try to get her to hang out instead. Counter her offer with "I have to make a call on my break, but if you want to hang out after work, I'm down." Make up some excuse why the break isn't good for you.

If she declines to meet up after work, with no option to reschedule, and she isn't trying to make plans, SOFT next her. You can't hard next coworkers you have to see the fucking chick at work. If she is down to hang out, I'd say go for it full gas pedal. If there's a locker room or some semi-private place to hang out on breaks and make out with her, then consider doing that and agreeing to the break hang out. Ask the girl "What do you want to do on our break? ;)" Turn up your charm and figure out what's going on. Odds are she's probably in the mood for you at this point. I used to spend breaks with a chick to do that lol that's not the same thing as validation fishing. Not everything is a shit test or any of that nonsense.

Either she's come around and wants some of you or she's just fishing for your validation. Just do what I said and see how game she is. You want the woman so stop lying to yourself and bullshitting the situation. The game ain't over yet so keep playing. Make a move. My opinion. Everyone else is probably going to say "HARD NEXT, BLOCK HER BLA BLA BLA" like they always do, never allowing any room for nuance.

Did you guys have any advice how to prevent further bullshit?

Send something like this over text if she starts to pursue you:

”You’re a cool girl and I enjoy working with you but I’m not looking for anything outside of that”

Avoid any situation where it will be just the two of you.

Keep any conversation purely work related and bring any conversation that she starts which aren’t work related back to work things. Divert as much communication as you can through documented channels.

Ignore her messages if she starts to blow you up, then act like nothing has happened when you’re working with her. If she call you out on it in person, just deflect: say you can’t remember, you’ve been busy and play dumb.

What is she like when you're off the clock? Is she hitting you up? Is she trying to spend with you outside work?

If not, she's just chasing some work attention BS. You need to get into other shit outside of work so you stop tripping off a girl you never dated.
