I hold true to Arnold's quote that " a well built physique is a status symbol etc etc". Yet I'm not really into flashy "stuff". I drive a Honda, my clothes are mostly stuff you'd find at Target, and my only jewelry is a Seiko watch. But I don't care -- I'm pretty darn ripped (and tall) and I want to get even moreso. Most of the guys I know who are also into lifting aren't really into having expensive "stuff" either.

But on the other hand, I have friends and male relatives who obsess over having the right car, clothes, watch, lawn tractor, barbeque grille, etc etc. They NEVER lift. It's not on their radar at all. Give them 2 hours to kill and they'd spend it detailing their leased BMW instead of touching a weight.

So I ask... is there an opposing correlation between guys into lifting vs guys into materialism? In other words, some guys seek satisfaction in their own bodies and the opposite guys seek satisfaction in their "stuff"?
