I"m a 20 year old college student and I recently started playing Super Smash Bros Melee competitively about a month ago. I play weekly with kids from my school and I go to a weekly tournament and I'll practice on my own.
The only thing is I feel like it is stopping me from reaching my full potential. A lot of my energy and focus is spent on the game. My grades are good but my diet is pretty abysmal, and my social life is not too great. Part of me thinks I should give it up but I just love playing so much, and it might be the only thing I really look forward to, and one of the only things I really enjoy doing. I don't want to let it go, but at the same time I feel like I"m wasting away and part of me just thinks that competitive gaming is a loser's hobby.
I'm worried I will be unable to balance playing the game with leading my life and I worry that it will always hold me back. I am unable to resolve my suspicion that the right thing to do is to stop and my fierce desire to continue competing. So what do you think I should do?
Thank you for any advice you can offer, I really am at a crossroads, and there's nowhere else I can turn.
