I wouldn’t advise it.

Rebuilding bridges ONLY works if YOU were the person who left—and left on inoffensive terms. (I.e. Things fizzled out because YOU stopped reaching out/responding).

On one hand you immediately look weak. The girl has likely moved on while you haven’t. If she IS single, and chose not to reach out to you, she definitely wasn’t thinking of you.

On the other hand, there’s very rarely anything to gain. You’re hitting them up because you want to keep the potential of pussy open. Well guess what? They know that and it doesn’t look good on you if they’re over it.

Best to let the universe take over and if you see them out in real life, go say hi and reconnect. Otherwise, build new bridges with new people and learn your lessons from the ones you burnt before.

It depends situation to situation but it can be done.

If your mate was insecure or jealous of you I wouldn't even bother. The dude might be all happy to see you and cool at first but soon the other side will come out where he'll play mental gymnastics with you, try to cockblock you or generally put you down to make himself feel better.

Honestly dude it's a much better bet to make new friends.
