Hi M32 here, soon graduating with a PhD in applied Maths/CS. I decided to not pursue the academic path but I would like to eventually "build my own hierarchy" for a multitude of reasons. I believe people here can understand this desire and I was wondering what kind of advice I could get here.

I am based in Europe, graduating from a top university and I am flexible to move to US, if the conditions are right. I see two choices currently. The first one is getting into some highly tech-related field, most likely Machine learning/AI related with the goal of creating a start-up in the long run. The other one is banking/finance, there are some high-profile prestigious quant companies hiring people like me. They pay very well based on performance but I am not so sure about the environment and the long-term perspectives.

Location is the other factor, I am tempted to move to the US, preferably the west coast but as a European used to the social safeties here I am hesitating somewhat. I would definitely want to end up in Europe in the long run but I am up for an adventure as long as I am young.

I was wondering what kind of advice I could get from guys around here. I appreciate your opinion!
