Aaron Sleazy's Minimal Game covers the basics extremely well. It's only $12 on Amazon. If you don't want to pay money, then here's a decent place to start:

I'm also new to the game / TRP... but my understanding is it's a whole approach, regardless of the resources, logistics and whatever else available to you... it's about becoming a Man and that in turn is what supports your game...

as I said, I'm new to all of this too, so please correct me if I've got this wrong.

I'd do my best to stay away from canned response game. It has a degree of value, but if you aren't able to quickly evolve away from it, you become a robot and you'll end up doing quite a bit of harm.

Stick with more modern game which focuses on inner game, and the outer game parts are less routine orientated. So for instance, "The Mystery Method" is good to know, but I wouldn't embrace it as a core game to follow.
