I'm actually a dentist. I think people underestimate the value of a healthy mouth (beyond looks) big time. I'm probably (almost certainly) biased, but I think your mouth is your #1 place to invest in yourself (health wise) minus maybe a good diet and working out. Buttttttt... without good teeth you have a hard time with having a good diet (aka the diet that led you to bad teeth ... plus harder to chew, more fiber rich and nutritious foods tend to be hard to eat if you have poor teeth).

Whatever the fuck you do do not get dentures. Game over. You can attempt to apply for something like CareCredit for some high interest (12 month 0% usually) loans for medical work. You can try to find a dentist willing to barter with you (but you need something to give - I work with local people who are painters/concrete guys/repairman and love to barter services, saves us both money and taxes...).

Teeth are the most noticeable attribute that someone sees to gauge how well you take care of yourself. It gives clues to your hygiene, your diet, and your commitment to having your shit together.

Your best bet was the one you took, which was a dental college. Fees are usually cheaper but the work takes forever and the esthetics aren't exactly top notch. Not sure NYU is that cheap an option, but you could always try one of those shady foreign-trained dentists and have worked done there.

Ways for giving people a reason to take me seriously despite my situation?

Focus on yourself and bettering yourself for YOU rather than overcoming that hurdle for other people. YOU deserve a healthy mouth for YOU and YOUR future not just to grab some pussy.

In my opinion (And a lot of the girls I date) teeth are exceedingly important as noted above.

Re-evaluate what got you into your situation and start changing it immediately. Start flossing. Get the root canals you need and REMOVE THE INFECTION in your teeth. 15k is a fucking small price to pay for something you should have your whole life and to be confident and comfortable with. Man up and realize you fucked up and its time to start saving money to better yourself. Could always try to get a job in the dental field and work some fringe benefits that way. My assistant had crooked ass teeth when she joined my practice and now she's a year into her braces (for free, $6k...). She's going to go from a HB5 country hick to a HB7-8 just from that alone, not to mention the confidence she'll suddenly have.

Any more questions (or to send radiographs and shit for a second opinion) just PM me. You could try 'tourist dentistry', lots of people going overseas for cheaper dental work. Hell, anywhere but NYC will be cheaper for dental work.

Some dentists will agree to a payment plan, particularly if you are paying in cash (which should be discounted anyway). So give that a try. You will be surprised how much in life is negotiable, if you ask.

You are NOT incorrect. Good teeth are an indicator of good genetic health. Humans use them as a subconscious marker. Yes, you can overcome it with tight game, otherwise good looks, and lots of money, but it's self handicapping. People pidgeon-hole you based on first impressions, and 90% of a first impression is your face. About 2/3 of that is your eyes. The rest is your teeth.

I remember a buddy of mine I first met over the internet. He's an engineer. Graduated MCL from a second-tier university. Then I met him. One of his front incisors was twisted around sideways.

I couldn't help myself. I started talking down to him, simplifying things, and in general treating him as though he were less intelligent than me, EVEN THOUGH I KNEW BETTER.

There's no better investment than good teeth. If you're already making abt $20K a year, look into getting into the dental field for the fringe benefits. Hygienists make pretty good money and your boss will work on you for a significant discount.

George Washington had fake ass wooden teeth and he still needed a snorkel for all the pussy he had to wade through. But really, your dentist will know more about your options than a stupid Internet dating forum.

In the meantime, focus on that which you can control. Do the abscesses give you face-melting bad breath? Fix that shit with gallons of Listerine. Does knowing your smile looks like it should belong on Duck Dynasty make you self-conscious? Yeah, I bet it does. But what's cool is that your value as a man has less to do with being a pretty flower (girl) and more to do with your ability to achieve your mission, make money, and spit game (man).

You could have the straightest teeth in the world, but if those other areas are lacking, then you have nothing. While straight teeth are part of Looks, you can work on other aspects of Looks, Game, Money, and Status in the meantime. Find the dollar amount of the corrective surgery and use that as a goal.

If there is a school of denistry in your city, you can probably go there and pay a small amount to have the dental students clean your teeth and give you a basic check-up. My current job doesn't have dental insurance so that's what I do to make sure my teeth are staying healthy.

Sounds like you need some serious work, though.
