Turned beta in a relationship, started incredibly alpha for a year then became exclusive. Any similar situations?

You need to be the guy you were that caught her eye. You likely were living life on your terms, doing your own thing.

The fuck up was changing you to suit her. That's a no-no.

I'm married. I was going down that same road a couple years in. She made a comment that hit close to home... she said "I miss the you I was dating. I mean you now is pretty nice but I miss that old you." It was the wake up call I was lacking. I took the hint and made changes. Note: I am not saying marriage is good or bad. Each guy has to decide for himself how he wants to live his life and sometimes marriage is a good deal or is advantageous to his goals (usually it's not).

TLDR: Be the guy who owned his shit, did his thing, and brought interesting people along for the fun. Read the sidebar a few times too.

Well, you know girls will try beta-izations on you all the time. Also, in a formal relationship, it's usual to get layed back, confortable, and tend to get back to the beta frame. If you started alpha, don't get in her game! You gotta keep and extra effort to remain on frame, even when LTR.

I really don't think that exclusivity ruined the things for you. Sometimes in LTR you gotta be honest too, it's not about a constant game. If you wanted to gave her your commitment, you was giving her the most valuable thing you gotta offer as a man, and she knows that. Don't take that as a negative thing.
