Service industry workers are required to be nice. Don't mistake them doing their job for bona-fide IOIs.

Work on your friendly banter there, sure. Also concurrently work on your social calibration and reading of body language etc.

Importantly, when they need to concentrate on the job of helping you like working the register or card machine, or when there's a line of people waiting, know when to shut the fuck up.

It doesn't matter that much what you talk about but you can say something a bit better like "what do you do when you're not handling money?" "You from around here?" etc.

Also, get business cards when hitting on women at work. Tell them they are cute, ask when they are off work. If she says 7pm, you say "cool call me at 7." and give her your card. It makes it quicker, less obvious and is smoother.

Good job on your first approach. I recommend doing at least 30 or 40 a month and keep on going with it.

EDIT: was definitely a no. Don't let it affect your confidence. Rejection is GOOD! Its one step closer to a yes. I've been shut down and ignored only to have a great rapport with the next chick I approach.

You didn’t really escalate/flirt/banter.

You just did general small talk

Once you flirted a bit/bantered then you should ask for her number.

Say “what’s your number” instead of “can I have your number? Pretty please?” It’s the same request but those statements have two very DIFFERENT frames. One’s high value, another is not.

Yeah sure perhaps not every girl may give her number at work but many would if it’s the right guy and if it isn’t blatantly obvious to everyone else what’s happening
