r/personalfinance might be a better place to ask this question, but for me the best thing I did was realize how little I need and how much the little things add up. Once you stop buying bullshit you don't need and eating out or going out for coffee all the time, you only have to pay for the essentials. Rent, groceries, medical insurance, car insurance/gas, phone/internet/gym membership. Check out a documentary on Netflix called "Minimalism" to see a very reasonable example of how much stuff you really need.

Facts are you're not going to save a lot of money working a restaurant job in 3 months. But heed this advice, my friend was in the Australian Military and he and 3 friends entered into an agreement where they all pooled down payment money and them lived together putting all their money on the mortgage. Once they paid off one they bought another moved in an rented the other out, putting all the money on the mortgage. They did this until they all owned a house outright.

Saving money is super-easy. Learn how to do TONS of things yourself instead of paying someone else to do it, especially your taxes, your cooking and whatever else you can think of.

Make sure all your expenses COMING UP and already spent are in a spreadsheet.

This will let you see the real picture, see patterns based on day of week, date of month, season, etc., and to see how expensive your entertainment/fun stuff is vs your survival stuff.

This lets you build a list on the spot, revise it easily, have all the math built into it to show you the total cost, so you can actually budget in fun shit and save money while getting all your necessary stuff.

Everything I do is on such a list.

Nothing is spent that is off the list, ever.
