What study method/strategy should I use to get better grades in high school? Should I use mind maps? Do they work?

Work= Intensity of focus X Time (Cal Newport - Deep Work)

If you are studying but have the TV on, have YouTube, Reddit, and Facebook opened in the tabs. You are limiting your capacity to do a certain amount of work in that time period because you are limiting your focus.

Block out time in your day just to study and have a separate environment just for studying. When you study remove all distractions and focus solely on your work.

For Math and Science practice and repetition is key. Do a variety of problems until you completely master the subject. And mastery is not getting it right once but not being able to get it wrong. Create practice exams and to them over and over.

For English class pick up reading as a hobby. you're ability to write well is related to how much you read. Also in analyzing written works having knowledge based on other books is good for making connections and understanding themes, motifs, archetypes and so on. History is a lot of memorization. Flashcard or any method of active recall will do. It's also important to understand cause and effect of event's beyond their time period. learn to look at the big picture.

When you start classes always look at you syllabus and identify where 80% of you're grade is going and focus on that. Don't get too caught up in the little stuff. Manage your time and efforts based the 80% and let that 20% be secondary.

What kind of grades do you get? Going from a 2.5 to a 3.5 is not the same as going from a 3.5 to a 4.0.
